Update on Nicole. Not good.

Sunday, February 09, 2014

Sorry that it has been awhile since you have heard from me. Things have progress very fast with Nicole in the last weeks, I am afraid that it is all bad news.

Nicole had a few days in the hospital because we could not get her pain level under control and she was feeling really ill. After some tests etc. They found the cancer has progressed to her stomach. It is very hard for her to eat and drink.

Nicole is in her home with the boys and with some major drugs she is comfortable. We are on the last part of this journey with her. It could be only another few weeks. Her mind is so strong but the body is so very frail.

As much as she was a pain as a teenager it has been Norm's (her dad) and my privilege to be so close to her now. We are her main care givers, she wishes to die at home so we are trying very hard to comply with that wish.

There is a very funny thing that happens when caring for an end of life person. Honesty is all that you have time for. We laugh and cry together on the silliest of things. We are all reminded of funny things that have happened over the years and not many hours go by before some one says "do you remember when", some how we all end up laughing, so it is not all tears and tissues!!!

From the place that I am now I see the worth in so many small things. Love the people you are with and if you do not like some thing, change it! Life is way way too short!!!!

I ask that you continue your prays and good thoughts coming to Nicole and the rest of the family. What ever your beliefs, we hope that you will ask for her end to be peaceful.

Because my time on Spark is so limited now, I thank you all so much for your support. I wish you all a loving and successful day! Ann
