Walk/run into run/walk

In Aug 2013 I started walking 30 min 3x a week. Then my daughter started walking with me and pushed me to do 60 min 3x a week. :) We walk/run out first 5K in Oct Race for the Cure. Well this Jan she said Mom we're doing the Louisiana half marathon Jan 2015. My reaction was YOUR crazy. I can't even run one mile much less 13.1.
I have stared back walk/run jan 2. I can walk/run 2.8 miles in 45 mins so that's not to bad. We have signed up for The Color Run in April. Can't wait. I will be looking for more 5K's to do.

I would like any tips or help.

    Thanks Kitrona. I tried the couch to 5k and could never get past the first week. Where I walk/run at is a straight road that is 2 miles down and 2 miles back. I go about 1.25 miles down and turn around. I walk 5 mins to warm up the run 1 or 2 telephone poles then walk 1 or 2 poles. I will do a search on some of the names you gave.

    Ooh, yes! I'm waiting for registration to open for the Color Run in Chicago! I've found a whole bunch of 5ks with the same general theme, just going by different names, and some other "theme" 5ks as well, like a zombie run, a foam run, a glow run, and a bubble run. If you search for names like that, you'll likely find some that are happening near you.

    Are you using the couch to 5k program? I know of a couple different ones that are free or inexpensive, and I've seen a lot more free ones (and of course a lot of paid ones, too). I've only paid for one, and it was $2, so not something that's ridiculous. I'm still on Week 1 to Week 2 of the program, so I don't have much advice on that part, except STRETCH, but you probably already know that. :)
