Terrific Thursday & update

Thursday, February 06, 2014

Excellent Class... Passed in my paper, my feminist fundamentalist paper complete with biblical references for the book review of a book about a radical labor communist.... But, interestingly enough, I asked if he could give us some sites to check out for examples of other book reviews, and I discovered as I always do, that there were at least half of the class that wanted to ask that same question and at least 3 of them had never done a book review before...(which reminds me I promised to email a copy to one of the others. Also, I told her mine was different, but she was welcome to have my rough copy, and since I had already passed mine in, I didn't need to worry about plagarism as I did in telling my story to a friend in high school. We had same teacher in different class, and the teacher was so impressed with the friend's story that she read it aloud to our class,, and you guessed it, I got charged with the plagarism, when it was the other way around.

Then we went to library and institute. Then in the evening, we went into town to something called a "Living Library"... really cool... I had a lovely conversation with a MicMac lady and then with an LGBT educator, whose life parallels my own dd's to a great extent.... very impressive...she told me I could be a book myself, she loved my story too....

Well, am half packed for my trip to Halifax tomorrow....so....later all..

Oh and update on Sheldon is not good. Doc asked to see them both and told them he has to stay in hospital till he has that surgery, and his body will NOT be healed for 2-3 months able to have the surgery , and he can't even go to the hospital in their hometown, 3-4 hrs. away because they aren't equipped to provide him care. So, he could be in hospital another 3-4 months.... Getting very expensive for sis staying at hotel and eating out.... How can you ever know that something like this can simply wipe out all your finances and retirement savings.... at least we are in Canada and the medical costs aren't piling up... Could certainly be worse, but these additional stresses are difficult.

I, too, echo what others have expressed here in hopes that your sister's husband will be healed and that both of them will manage to get their lives back on track soon. It has to be more stressful than most of us could imagine and I am sorry that your family is going through this. Hugs and prayers!

Now, what happened to you in High School - Dang! That is absolutely infuriating! The nerve of that girl - and especially IF she never made things RIGHT for you by defending you and admitting her crime. Like someone else here, I am also curious as to whether you ever explained to the teacher what really happened.

Now, my little trouble maker friend story goes back to grade school. I think we may have been in third grade. So, my BEST friend is sitting in a desk right behind mine and she is pulling my hair. It is only meant to tease me and to be funny (I guess), but since the natural thing to do when someone is pulling your hair is to turn around and ask them to stop - and because the teacher could ONLY see me turning around and talking to the girl behind me - when I should NOT have been talking during class - but could not see the hair puller pulling my hair - I got in trouble. Yep, I had to go stand in the corner - in the front of the whole class room - and off to the side of the teachers desk.
Now, Lila, you know how OLD I am ... and how LONG AGO that was - but, hey, we never forget those injustices, do we ...

Hope you are enjoying your week!

I hadn't bumped into you over at Bear's, so decided to check up on you --- hoping that nothing draining was going on for you. I enjoyed your account of getting your paper done & handed in. Your high school experience is one that will bug me every time I think of it. I wonder --- did you try to explain to the teacher?

I remember using the germ of an idea from a paper my older brother had written, for a story in one of my high school classes (in a different state from where we had lived when my brother was in high school). One of my classmates said that he had heard that story before! To this day, I wonder why he would say such a thing. Friends said that he liked me --- mercy, that is not a way to a gal's heart! emoticon

I, too, am joining my prayers with the others going heavenward for your sister & her husband, as they weather this trial. The idea that your sister check on alternative accommodations is something I thought as I read your blog. Maybe, if she checked with the hospital, they would be able to provide her with suggestions. If she cannot find something more reasonable, a talk with the hotel manager to see if there can be a weekly or monthly rate given for the room might help. Sometimes hotels do that for businessmen --- cutting the maid service to once a week.

God bless!

So sorry about your BIL, will say a prayer for them! I'm glad they have the health care that they do! No facilities connected to hospital/hospice etc, for them?

good for you on getting your paper done

Sheldon.... yes a friend of mine had a serious health problem arise in her life several years ago now. Her extended hospital stay cost them their lifestyle...they were well off. Had a motor home, a touring motorsysle, 2 rental homes as well as their own home in a well to do area, and a terrific bank account. In the end, everything was sold off to pay for various procedures, hospital stays with the hubby in a hotels, ferries back and forth etc. They ended up living in a second hand, single wide mobile home, where she died a few years later. The husband never recouped all his losses.

Sad story, but it does happen.
Your sister would be better off renting an apartment , small home or small trailor, even a motor home. And fixing her meals there as well as living in it. Three to four months rent is a lot cheaper than hotel living and restaurant meals

Sorry for your sister's stress. I'm sending healing thoughts/prayers for Sheldon. Does the hospital have a program for this sort of thing? Sometimes there are area people who open their homes and let people stay with them short term.
