This old house (great song to hear))

Thursday, February 06, 2014

(We sold our home January 29th, two days later found a small rental while waiting to make plans to have a smaller home built on some property the Lord blessed us with. The home we sold has given us 30 years of fond memories with family members who have passed away, a place where we raised 2 sons, and entertained 7 precious grandchildren. As I reflected about the past memories, this song came to mind. Also, it reminds me that after we build this new home (Lord Willing) it will be our last move before moving on to glory. emoticon (Hope you click on the link below and listen to it if you have never heard it before.
This old house once knew my children
This old house once knew my wife
This old house was home and shelter as we fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now she trembles in the darkness when the lightnin' walks about

Ain't gonna need this house no longer
Ain't gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm getting ready to meet the saints

This old house is getting shaky
This old house is getting old
This old house lets in the rain and
This old house lets in the cold
On my knees I'm getting chilly
But I feel no fear or pain
'Cause I see an angel peeking through
A broken window pane

Ain't gonna need this house no longer
Ain't gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window pane
Ain't gonna need this house no longer
I'm getting ready to meet the saints

Now my old hound dog lies asleeping
He don't know I'm gonna leave
Else he'd wake up by the fireplace
And he'd sit there, howl and grieve
But my hunting days are over
I aint gonna hunt the 'coon no more
Gabriel done brought in chariot
When the wind blew down the door

Ain't gonna need this house no longer
Ain't gonna need this house no more

Wonderful song. Heard it many times over the years and it always warms my heart to know someday I will be leaving this house for another with our Lord.

Loved this song. My father was a contractor. He built houses and was a proud craftsman. He loved God and life but was ready to leave his house when it was time knowing he had a room ready in his Father's mansion.
