back to the very cold air,, slight snow showers today.. dusting,if you will..

Sunday brings yet another blizzard.
Today DD and I went to Dad's house to check the mail: pension check was mailed from Chicago January 28th,, still awaiting it,, USPS seems to slow down when they raise the postage.. Now it is a $.49 stamp to send an envelope..

The best part of winter for people in Michigan is getting some good fresh produce to eat. This year it seems to be pineapples. Not sure how they sell them for such a low price($1.00),, They are slightly small, but as sweet as candy. We just eat them for snacks and with every meal..

Speaking of meals, DD put two suet cakes out two days ago and one of them is gone already!! No squirrels have any access to them, so it is strictly the birds!! I bought two cases of the darned things and it seems to be keeping the birds alive here in this horrible weather. Seed and the cakes are cheaper this year,, God provides: I could never afford them if they were not in such sales.. those poor birds,, first the railroad guys drop hundreds of trees along the line, they lose their home, plus food and nesting material that the trees provide,, then this blasting cold weather..
We have been dumping anything of a scrap we can , out the patio door for them, bread crusts, popcorn, fruit.. They jump on it gratefully almost as soon as I close the door behind me!

Please help wildlife if you have spare food;; they have no access to the regular seeds and berries now, under this snow and ice..

I love so much that you help the birdies. If we had access to any wildlife I would definitely put food out. Unfortunately I live in a concrete jungle.

Those are some lucky birds, to live near you! Stay safe and warm this weekend!

His eye is on the sparrow. That's so cool that you and DD are feeding the birds. I wonder if they're eating so much because it's winter. You know how we like to eat a heartier meal when it's cold? Maybe it's the same for them.

I live in Michigan, and I also feed the birds. I had so many around my suet feeder that I bought a 2nd one to put out a few weeks ago.

I was out today for groceries, and the wind made it bitter cold. It's going to be even colder though; we are under a wind chill advisory in my area starting at 1am, at which time I will be snug in my bed.

LINDA we also feed the birds. We do not have feeders we just dump the scraps on the ground. I was having a clean out from the pantry so I just broke up crackers we never eat the kids. brought them in here and since they were flying they are left here. I open my kitchen window over the sink and I heave things out daily. I throw out avocado pits out there and we have crazy squirrels that cart the away. They have to eat enough so they can carry them , the pits are almost as big as their heads. I only feed them in the winter. We have so may cats in our street I stop feeding the birds so the cats will not catch the birds. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon
