Progress on My 14

Thursday, February 06, 2014

I am making progress on my 14 things to do in 2014.

1. Try kale. It's so healthy. Why haven't I done this yet?

Done 2/5/14 First, I tried it raw, in my salad. Then I tried it in soup. I enjoyed both.

2. Snowshoe. Hopefully we'll have a warmish winter day so I can.

Still waiting on that warmish day.

3. Meet a Spark Friend. Anyone else interested?

Set for March.

4. Walk a walk/run. I was going to put 5K but I just want to start by doing one that isn't virtual.

Working on this.

5. Get a facial. It sounds like so much fun!

6. Learn Tunisian Crochet. I've crocheted for years. It's about time I broaden that skill.

I ordered a DVD for this and am waiting for it to come.

7. Take an Excel class. Years ago, I took a Word class and my DH took an Excel class with the idea that we'd teach the other person what we learned. That part never happened and I am often lost in Excel so it's just easier to let my DH take over. I need to rely less on him.

Signed up. Class starts 2/19.

8. Take a cooking class. Online or in a classroom -- just something to expand my skills.

9. Call or see a friend every week. I connect too much online and that just isn't the same.

This one is much more like a resolution. It is going well.

10. Listen to a book on tape. It will be good to stretch my auditory skills.

I'm currently listening to one of the Sue Grafton books.

11. Try seeding root vegetables in early November so they over winter. I heard about this on public radio and am curious to try it.

12. Visit a new Wisconsin town. I'll have several options. I just need to decide which direction I should aim the car.

13. Try hummus. It was easier to try new things when I worked. I could take something to work and try it. If it turned out I liked it, I could buy more.

Done 1/12/14 It was okay -- just okay.

14. I'm still having trouble deciding on this one. I could fill it in many ways.

WOW!! you are progressing beautifully! a friend of mine makes oven baked kale chips--will ask her how to do it if you want--her grands love them.
my fave hummus is garden something brand "spicy cilantro" flavor. I put it on bread, with a slice of cheese and several slices of red pepper. makes a nice sandwich. Stacey's naked pita chips are very nice with hummus. I think its kind of an acquired taste. there are lots of flavors--keep sampling until you find one that you like.
another great way to each chickpeas is to mash them with a fork and then make your favorite tuna salad only use the chickpeas instead of tuna. I always add red pepper and finely chopped carrot to this. I like it very much--you need the carrot for the sweetness--it compensates for that funny kind of metallic quality that chickpeas have.
wish you were closer--I would love to meet--don't know if you ever make it to northern Indiana, but let me know if you do! I am not far from amish country.
the crochet sounds amazing--I would also love to see it when you get some done. I have several friends that are fiber artists--I am so impressed with people who can crochet and knit--it ain't my gig at all. too much counting!
have a great day, and congratulations on working on your list!

Love these goals--good luck with them. As for number 13, I wasn't a big fan of it in the beginning (did not like the taste of tahini) but now I eat it every week because I make my own. It's pretty good (if I do say so myself, lol). Take care!

Good for you on attacking and accomplishing the goals you've set for yourself this year. At the pace you're going you'll have them all done before the winter is over. I can't wait to see what you do after that! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You're doing great on your list. I would also like to see the crochet when you get some done. Perhaps the walk/run will happen sometime this summer, with sparkfriends? (hint, hint)

I don't care for hummus either. I avoid eating it when I can.

#3....Is this what got the March meet-up rolling? I'm so glad it made your list!

You're doing great!

I don't care much for hummus either, it's too salty. My cousin thinks I should try to make some from dried garbanzo beans, etc. It would be a new recipe.
I'm glad you like kale, I will have to try it raw. Generally I only eat it cooked.
I want to see your Tunisien crochet when you get started.
Stay safe, and you can call me if you have time.
