I was totally floored by the Biggest Loser finale!

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

Shocked is more like it. I cannot believe how unhealthy a couple of the contestants looked. And the comments about how the show is to be about healthy weight loss. Really? To lose that amount of weight in such a short time is about being healthy? We are so delusional to think a reality show about losing the most weight for prize money is about health. It is a TV show and it is about ratings.

I like how I have heard people justify that if you ONLY eat healthy all the time, and you work out 8 HOURS a day, it is healthy Who in real life gets to avoid temptation 24 hrs a day every day? Who has the time to work out for 8 hours EVERY DAY? I can see an actor or an athlete doing that. They make money off their bodies, but a "regular" person with a family, a job, a house to take care of?

The people that keep it off from the show are usually not the winners because they have focused on their health vs the competition. The show is a good concept but focuses on the wrong results.

I like that the show can rally a nation on people's journey to weight loss and inspire others to start their journey to health. Other than this, I have a lot of issues with the show. Now I know that even though we call it reality TV, it is still TV and lets face it they are dependent on ratings and advertisers so it's not really reality. I think Rachel really put them in a tough spot? If it's a competition how do they pick a winner? Should she give up winning because she could only loose so much and just hope that the others screw up? At the same time what a horrible message to illustrate, but then the whole idea of putting your life on hold to whisk off to CA to workout and eat right and loose large amounts of weight so quickly, well that's completely unrealistic!

I hope she can reverse any damage that she might have done to her body.

Before the finale, The BL doctor said that "her body fat %age was 18.5 which is typical for athletes". At that point, she looked healthy. Then the Final Three went home.

She must have needed the money desperately to have done that to her body at home! emoticon

I used to be a big fan but I lost interest when they got Jillian back. And the lady who won looked sickly.
