It Just Gets Worse!

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

This morning I opened the door and neither dog would go out. Nothing much I can do so they will have to figure out what to do about toileting. All accidents will be forgiven. When Charlie finally got up and checked the temperature it was (drum roll here...ta da,da da) -32 C.
I am not sure what the day will hold. It will warm up a bit but I will not start the car colder than -15 C. There is something happening at the clinic today that I wanted to support but I just don't know if I will go. What to do? My tracker addiction will push me to do something . I am planning to make some hamburger soup with some very lean ground beef, I will also cook a lot of carrots and eat them topped with East Indian curry. I am also enjoying writing letters to a lot of friends, packing up valentines parcels for the grandkids and sorting out the house. The pellet heater is going great guns and the propane heater in the living room cuts in a lot to top up the house temperature. We are so lucky. I worry that some people are having a hard time keeping their houses warm. But we are well fed and cozy.

Yep. We've finally come out of our -30 weather. It snowed overnight and now the sun is shining in a cloudless sky. Stunning! Brilliant! The cats went out voluntarily this morning, a first for several days : )

This weather is crazy! After a week of temps that hovered around 0 degrees F (below zero at night, 8 degrees during the day, ugh), we are now jumping on the weather roller coaster into the 40-50's! The sun was shining when I walked our dog at 4:30 in the sunshine (I had to wear sunglasses) and then it was snowing within the hour. Winter, not for the faint of heart!

Have a great week and keep warm.

It's been almost that cold here. My rule of thumb is that anything down to -18C is doable without long johns. Below that I wear them. However, today is my day off work and I am enjoying not having to go outside unless I choose to.

It's actually not too bad outside today, -18C with sunshine and not much wind. Yesterday when I left for work, it was around -24C and my car started fine. I did let it warm up a while before I left. When it gets to around -30C, it is pretty reluctant to start since it doesn't have an engine heater. That's probably what I'm facing Friday morning, so I will probably be somewhat late for work...

I hope your forecast is for warming temperatures shortly.

I just read both of your blogs about the cold...you are a very brave soul! When the weather is bad, I just walk around the house, or march/jog in place to get my steps in.

As far as a dog's bladder...we have the same problem with one of the dogs we often watch. If it's raining too hard, or she can hear thunder...even from a long distance...she hides and wont come out til the 'coast is clear'. I think they have an inner sense we can only dream of. Chiquita will stop eating and drinking long before a storm comes to make sure she wont have to go out! emoticon

I am so glad to know that you are staying warm and well fed. Some people said you can still put lots of steps in while you are washing dishes and stuff. I gusse they are marching in the place. And there are some DVD you can walk in your living room.

The dogs each finally did go out around 10 when it warmed about 5 degrees. But it is official now, I AM NOT GOING OUT! When you breathe in air that cold it is hard on lungs. Hubby and I discussed this and we just felt it to be too risky. Tomorrow is another day though!

I am so happy you are safe and warm. That's just TOO cold!!! Brrrrrrr!!! emoticon emoticon I don't blame the dogs. Maybe you have some booties for them? I had seen rescue dogs wear some booties when conditions are too cold (or too hot like lava). emoticon

YIKES! I was feeling cold here (low was 5 degrees) but I guess it is all relative! Stay warm, and just exercise in your home (I frequently dance or walk in place or use light weights in front of the television ...)
