Warming the world two hands at a time.

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

I am on a mission to keep the small fingers at Stoddard Elementary School warm, and I see the fruit of my labor every single outdoor recess. Yesterday one of my small friends came over to talk with me. She had her hands in her pockets, and the biggest smile on her face. I love talking with my friend, and she knows it. I asked her if she knew that I had made a pair of mittens especially for her to borrow whenever she forgot her mittens at home. She replied, ďNo, I didnít know that.Ē I sent her into the school, and soon she ran out the door with the yellow rubber ducky mittens on. She did not come back over to talk with me, she headed straight for her friends on the playground. I donít blame her at all.
Yes, I am a mitten maker. I love seeing children play in the snow without thought of cold fingers. No one has fun in the snow when they are cold. Waterproof, lined mittens with beautiful designs keep kids happy and comfortable outside on the playground. That is how I am warming the world two small hands at a time.
I have no mitten photos right now.
All mittens are in use at the school. Since this is a snow day, I will make another pair of mittens, and post them later.
Let it wnow!

YOU HAVE A VERY BIG HEART. HOW GREAT. IS THAT PICTURE OF THE MOOSE & CAT IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE? WHERE ARE YOU? I WENT CAMPING IN UPPER Michigan, AND ALMOST RAN INTO A MOOSE. HE WEIGHTED MORE THAN A TRUCK, AND I WAS SCARED THAT HE COULD ATTACK ME. EVA emoticon

(I am glad I read all of these comments - I was wondering if the picture was taken by you!) Yes- I agree with the others- you ARE 'a thoughtful angel'. I used to knit but arthritis has stopped me from doing much of that. A person could purchase home made mittens to donate to a school for that purpose, though. What a great idea! You are a blessing, and may God continue to bless you too.

    Ah, shucks! re: the photo!

What a thoughtful person to help the youngsters overcome their (or their parents') forgetfulness and make an outdoor recess a warm, rewarding experience.

You are a saint!

How nice! My MIL used to knit mittens and then connect them with a long piece of bias binding so the mittens hung out of each jacket sleeve permanently. Otherwise, we would have had a lot of frozen fingers.
