Team Support - Individual Accountability (2014 - Blog #35)

I work on a team of 8 .. and great team too! I hired 5 of the 7 staff and the 2 I did not hire I would have hired without hesitation. All very different people with a common mission of support kids and making sure they graduate. The work is hard and draining sometimes, but this team makes coming to work a joy. Not everyone always gets along -- small team family things but under it all we enjoy working together.
Today we got an email from our employer about something called Healthy University. In teams of 5 we will work on healthy choices, healthy living etc. One of the team members invited us to make at least one team of 5. A few of us jumped at the chance. By the end of the day, the competitive juices had permeated the entire team of 8. We found two more people to complete two full teams for the next 12 weeks of focus.
We bantered during lunch about team names and which team was going to leave the other in the dust. We laughed about being the "best" and egged each other on to just join! I left the conversation with a huge smile. The energy in the room was of MAJOR team support. I could feel the SPARK happening from within the team. And the excitement lingered when I thought about how the team support would ignite and fan my own individual accountability. Although most of my health journey is by choice an individual activity, I am looking forward to being part of this particular challenge because I really like the people who are part of it.
Here's to all those who make up teams and congrats to all who zero in on your own accountability.
