A matter of cold, snow and wind

Tuesday, February 04, 2014

It seemed almost pleasant outside this morning when I
left the house to walk to the office. Well, at least it was
until I got out of the shelter of the house and the cold
north wind hit me in the face. Hmmm. Should I drive
or walk? DH had parked my pickup in the driveway
and his car was behind it. The IMP needs have her
annual physical and I don't want to drive her much
until after she sees her doctor LOL! So off I go, into
the wind and glad that it is only a short way. There
is light snow in the air and the street is beginning
to get covered, just enough so the ice is hidden.
I arrived safely, deposited my purse in the office
and strolled to the café to see who is there and
catch up on all the latest news. Nothing new-that
is odd. I finish early because I have plenty I want
to get done before 9. I make excellent gains and
feel like I should be ahead of the game. The
snow keeps falling and I shovel the sidewalk so
no one slips or falls. I shovel again after lunch.
Tonight, I leave it because the wind just blows it
all back-in front of the door. I will deal with it again
tomorrow.
I toss together a casserole of fresh browned ground
beef, leftover, brown rice, stewed tomatoes, onions,
green peppers and portabella mushrooms with a
package of sloppy joe seasoning. DH likes it so I
can make it again sometime.
Firemen's meeting went well and we watched a
video on the dangers of low-end dams, very common
in our area. And also very dangerous if you get
sucked into the tide directly in front of the dam.
Glad I prefer standing on the riverbank to taking a
boat out on the river!
It will be quite cold tonight with wind chills of 20
to 30 below zero. We are keeping the wood furnace
going and are happy that we do not have to venture
outside for anything.
Have a Happy Hump Day and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

Burrrrr this former Iowa girl is MORE than happy to be living in sunny SW FL. Especially when I read about these terrible temperature extremes. I don't know HOW you do it my friend. I always seemed to think it was normal back in Iowa until we took our first trip to FL...after that when you KNOW there are nicer places to winter there was no stopping us. FLORIDA here we come. We've been here since 1979 and I STILL dread going back to visit family during Christmas. I have to work myself up to it...instead of yearly..it's become semi yearly. I don't miss the climate and sadly not the people much either. All of my friends moved out of Iowa...so it's just MIL and SIL...those two can be real Christmas grouchy grinches...so it puts a damper on the holiday. Maybe it's because they have lived in a place for all their lives that has maybe 3 good months of weather for the entire year? I never thought of that before! emoticon lightbulb moment!

We had two graduate students several years ago who were inebriated after a UK game and they got to close to a dam from flooding and both drowned. It can happen in the wink of an eye. We have major flooding in my state as well as snow, ice and sleet. They had the kids in school today which shocked me as the electricity was out in the AM due to freezing rain.

Have a great hump day! Whats for supper, I'm getting hungry! emoticon

Brrrr, gf!! I didn't think I'd survive when our temp dipped down to 6 one night, but sheesh!! I hope I never see single digits or even teens again & I sure never want to see anything below 0!!! Don't know how you do it, but I guess it's a matter of being used to it and, like you, having a great, positive attitude. I tend to get more like an angry grizzly bear the colder it gets! hehe Not a pretty picture, but accurate!
You take great care out doors, my friend and with your wood burner. You are certainly made of tougher stuff than I!
Happy Hump Day to you, too, dear!! (((HUGS)))

Reading your blogs reminds me of the books Little House on the Prairie. They lived in North or South Dakota and the stories of what they went through were amazing. I feel like I live in a foreign world when I read your blogs and I living in South Florida! emoticon I was sweating yesterday! Generally, I don't like extremes in weather, cold or hot. Here, for me, it is hot most of the year and I don't like it nor my MS. I admire your attitude about life and how you deal with everything. Please stay safe and warm. emoticon

Stay warm today... don't know what YOUR weather is, but we're dealing with bitter cold and blowing snow down here to your south... and I would hardly call it pleasant. LOL. Guess you are truly that hardy Pioneer stock!

Spark a great one! emoticon

What a day for a snow storm! We are expecting more snow tonight and we got some last night as well. I am told we are to expect another storm Sunday so, maybe, if things work out this time, you will be spared for a change and we will get it all. ( Not that I want another storm ) LOL. Keep living your wonderful life. I know they say the grass is always greener but you and all you get to do each day, often makes me envious.Be well and stay warm,
