Beginning to Run

Yesterday was my first day of my running/walking training. Last week I was doing my all walking training working my way up to this. I'm not going to lie, yesterday was tough. But I did way better than I thought I would. My husband said he was amazed at how well I did. We went to the local playground/park. He and my son played while I did laps around the park. The biggest problem I had was my calves. I'm really good about stretching after I warm up and after my workouts. But all last week and yesterday I had such bad pain in my calves. Today however, the pain seemed to for the most part go away. Today I did a mile of walking up and down the hill of my driveway and once I got past the first couple of times my calves stopped hurting. I didn't have to stop halfway up the hill each time like I've been doing. And I shaved 10 minutes off my time. I'm very excited about that. I also got my pedometer today in the mail so I'm looking forward to being able to track my steps and mileage.

    Well done on your progress so far. When I started running my calves were definitely the biggest issue - I believe stretching is the key and it will ease over time as you get stronger.

    Great progress. I do lots of calf raises to keep mine limber. Hills really give them a work out!
