Yesterday I did an hour of strength training. 20 years ago that would've been a short set. 20 years ago I was at the gym for an hour and a half minimum. 100lb bench presses, squats with 180lbs and pectoral flys with 25lbs in each hand. (No I didn't remember that I have a little notebook from back in the day that has my routine). Of course 20 years ago I was married, with no kids and an entry level job that didn't take much of my attention.
So yesterday I pick up my 8lb dumbbells and start working it. I can do most things holding the weights through both sets. When I can't finish the set with dumbbells I finish them without. So I have now completed my goal of starting strength training in February. My next goal is actually being able to finish 2 sets still holding the weights. Then maybe I'll work up to weights at the gym where others might see me.
