Day 532: Food for Thought...

Tuesday, February 04, 2014

I'm not real good at the whole self-help thing. I mean, I find all kinds of good ideas, read lots of inspiring stories, all of that, but my inability to apply these gleanings with any consistency seems to preclude my incorporating them into my life in a way that gives me long-lasting benefits. Y'know?

I came across a simple, thought-provoking gratitude reminder today. A woman asked "What would your life be like tomorrow if you had only the 'gifts' you gave thanks for today?"

Me, now, I'm gonna start with being thankful for a good cup of coffee to help me start the day. Amen.

Count your blessings. Have a good 'un, Sparklers - carpe diem!

Great idea! My default mode is surly and I need to improve that. In the meantime, a bracing cup of lapsang souchong makes me happy.

I am thankful for central heat. Growing up, we had a monstrous kerosene heater that took up a good portion of the living room each winter.

I'm with you on the coffee - having a lovely dark roast as I type this. I also hear church bells ringing, as I am in Charleston, SC. I am grateful for not being in New England under the latest 5" snow storm with more to come and grateful that I am able to explore this charming city.
I find on self-help, the only way I can stay on track is make sure it is in front of my face every day. I parse it out - maybe read a few pages of a book or a short video on a website. If I don't, I drift back to the old ways much too easily.
