Midwinter Classic 10 miler

Monday, February 03, 2014

This is one of those races that sells out in a few hours! Seriously .... a hilly course - 10 miles - in Maine - in February! ...and a thousand of us could not wait to do it!
Nice to know if you are nuts that you have lots of company.

Race time 9:45..... approx 40 degrees out - cold for a lot of you and for some of us a welcome relief from the single digit temps that we have had. The running outfits ranged from tank tops and shorts to many layers with a warm hat and gloves. I was in the middle, over the calf compression socks, long running pants, silk long underwear top - a mid weight running jacket running gloves and a headband.... it was a little cold at the start but you know the old adage.....if you are warm enough before the start of the race then you are overdressed.

logistics were good - 3 water/Gatorade stops loots of volunteers to direct traffic... and a nice warm gym to warm up in before and after the race. yogurt, bagels, pizza , coffee and enough water.

Last year I came in second in my age group - this year I did a little bit better and came in 5th! Tough age group!!! Still I was happy with my time and managed to have fun.....FUN???? did I say 10 hilly miles in Maine in February?

That sounds AWESOME! I'm getting over my aversion to running in the snow, so this sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Way to go! I agree "just signing up makes you a winner". This time of year can be brutal.

Wow, just signing up for that makes you a winner in my book (says the weather wimp).
Good for you!

Great race! 10 miles is a nice length, hills would make it a challenge. Wow, did you luck out with the weather in Maine, in February, during the polar vortex! Lucked out!!!

Sounds like a blast! Congrats and way to get it done! I think I'd still be out there on a hilly race. I did a 5.5 mile relay over the weekend, but it was flat, and a lot of fun!
