Thank You........

Monday, February 03, 2014

I want to Thank those who responded to my blog of yesterday. I have to admit, that when it started on Saturday, and I couldn't even BE ON Spark People, it was a bit un-nerving! When the final pop-up came up and it was Internet Protection for a mere $100, I knew immediately that it was a SCAM. Until this came up though, I thought that there was really something wrong with our computer. I knew that we had anti-virus protection, but I had also read about hackers being able to get through this and destroy everything on your computer. When I mentioned the scam to my husband, I said that I couldn't understand who would fall for this and pay that amount!!! Then I really thought about it and realized that there are a lot of people out there who rely on their computer totally. The thought of it being compromised would be so scary that they would gladly pay the $100 just to keep connected.
How sad it is that there are people out there whose only function is to find ways to take advantage of others. I guess that it is a sign of our times and how much we depend on technology. It has opened up a whole new breed of corruption.
Enough negativity.............I wish all of you a GREAT new week!!!

I'm glad you got the issue resolved. A person who SCAMS others is no different than any other 'con' artist. Modern technology has merely supplied these beings with another way to take advantage of others. Sad, definitely, but unfortunately also true. At least your your problem did not get a chance to fully blossom. emoticon

Besides Virus software, my DH puts Malware software on my pc. It really helps keep some of that junk out. Also, I use EarthLink as my interface for email, and it seems to catch a lot of stuff that others don't get. Don't get me wrong - I do still get some junk, but my theory is that if I didn't contact them, they are scamming, so I just delete, delete, delete! One of the issues with your Spark emails is that they are active - they link to the site. So it is easier to "plant" stuff there. Glad you got rid of it, and be sure you run your anti-virus every week at minimum (mine runs daily) and also back up your files!!!

Have a great day!

Seniors are a prime target, unfortunately, for scams of all times.
