Friday evening at Walbaum's - discounted veggies for $2.90
They had to be processed right away as they were reaching their limits of freshness.
Cutting ends off an inch and placing in fresh cold water. Good for the next few days and will eat fresh.
very large frying peppers washed well, cut open, inside washed too, and seeds saved.
Placed into the freezer and can be used for up to 6 months.
about 100 seeds saved for starting under lights in March.
Tomatoes washed, submerged into boiling water to remove the skins.
Placed into icy cold water. Skins removed.
Into the food processor to rustically chop up.
Into a sterilized jar.
Lemon juice and seasalt added.
I didn't put the tomatoes into a hot water bath so I froze them. I have a quart of tomatoes when I need them for sauces or soups.
All these veggies were under $3.00, and I believe I did good with this purchase. If we do this every week, we'll have a good supply of food to carry us through the winter months at a fraction of the cost. Produce is very costly in the off season months.
