Obesity Is...

Obesity is far more than simply carrying around a few pounds, obesity destroys the will, destroys your dreams and eliminates your desire to reach, putting you into a rut of a defeated life. Soon your mind is trained not to expect anything out of yourself because that is easier than facing your condition head on and doing something about it. When you become morbidly obese, the walls of your world close in slowly until your comfort zone becomes a prison.

This is a path where I am learning that the only limits I have are the ones I allow myself to be fettered with. I look back and reflect on my past and I can plainly see a long process where my self confidence and self image died a slow and painful death. Losing weight and getting healthy is far more than fitting into the next size down, it is reprogramming yourself to accept the fact that you are capable and are able to push past limitations one step at a time.

I never viewed any challenge as an opportunity for growth, it was always viewed as yet another opening for all the world to see my ineptness and to suffer embarrassment. That is one of the things that makes morbid obesity such a killer. We all know about the health side of it but obesity is a destroyer of the soul. This is so much more than shedding the pounds, it is about reclaiming the life.

Today, I am a champion, not because I have never experienced failure and hurt, but because I have learned that to live the dream, you have to be willing to fail, learn, develop an action plan to get around it, then forge ahead.

To embrace failure is the foundation of success because it is one of the main ingredients. The moment we accept that and divorce our self image from this inevitable process, we win.

This blog hits close to home with me. I have tried to lose weight and given up on numerous occasions. Obesity takes away confidence and instills fear. I am tired and afraid of failing. On the flip side, I'm also afraid of success and if i'll be able to maintain the weight loss if it happens. I'm back and motivated. I hope I can get out of my own head and overcome the fear.

great Blog, I like what you have to say and want to say thanks. It has put me to thinking I have to make a lot more changes in my life. I have lost some and have a lot more to go. I have made some changes and need to sit down and re-evaluate what I need to do to make my life better and healthier.

Awesome summation of what many of us feel but cannot express. I saw that Dr. Oz put on a "fat suit" and went out into the community only to find that obese people carry more weight than he expected. His finding mirror your words.

Thank you!

Robert this is by far the best blog you have written. In fact the best blog I have ever read. That is probably because I saw myself all over this page. Are you sure you're not my twin brother from a different mother? Or maybe a different grandmother? Thank you for writing it!
