my kids pizza(photo)is it junk food?you decide

Saturday, February 01, 2014

as often on the weekend my kids like what they call fast junk food.though when making it yourself from scratch it is not very fast and in my opinion when made healthily not very junkfood either.i tend to make everything from scratch for those of you who don´t know because my oldest son has some very higly allergic allergies which could be leathal when even traces of certain substances are in today the kids wanted pizza.i made for ayman a tomatoe sauce(give recipe later in blog)and tunfish(he doesn´t like cooked cheese)and zakariya and ayyub´s one with all the works tomatoe, cheese, onion, mushroom,
tunfish and is the phot so you can see the finished product.

a photo of the two pizzas toppings

from the side so you can see how thin the dough is and how much topping is actually on it.

and the underneath of the dough as i think it looks scrummy.

the pizza dough i made up of roggen flour and a 1/2 cup of bran.
the tomatoes sauce is made of tomatoes, onions, garlic, carrots
,red peppers and zuchini with herbs and spices all blended together to look just like a tomatoe sauce for the kids.
the cheese used on the pizza is a lowfat mozerrela.

so you can see why i asked if you think this is really junk food because to me i think it is pretty healthy even the pizza dough especially as i rolled it so they had it with a lentil and vetgtable soup.we sometimes have it with salad and homemade baked potatoe chips.if you want to see what they look like you can see a photo of them on an old blog of mine which was also about the kids fast food (filafel)-here is the link to those interested.

thanks once again for taking the time to read this blog and an extra thankyou if you take the time to reply.what is yours or your kids favorite fast food and what do you do to make it healthier for them?take care and keep smiling.

I think it can be both depending on what it's made of and how fatty it is. If it's full of veggies and low fat meats/cheeses and thin crust it could very easily be healthy

Looks great & healthy. Probably a great thing the kids think it's junk food. My number one regret is that I did not cook more from scratch when the kids were teens. I did when they were little. We always had plenty of fruit & veggies & milk. But wish I would have down better instead of caving into pizza rolls & hotdogs. Your a wonderful Mom. Heck your a wonderful everything!!!

Pizza doesn't need to be unhealthy and when you make it from scratch....yum. Both look delicious. I'm sure the boys enjoyed this "fast food" meal. They probably don't even realize how healthy it was for them. lol Great job as usual, Karen. I love when you share what you've made.

That looks very healthy! I have a grandson who has many food allergies and Ive decided its really difficult for him to actually eat "junk" food because of his allergies. I make most of his goodies so I know what is in them. I wish I could find a pizza cheese he likes. I never thought of not putting cheese stuff on it. He is allergic to all dairy. Having food allergies kind of forces you to eat better, I think.

Fast food is only made outside of the home. I have and love m y microwave oven it is definitely Fast food but it is also healthy food. No chemicals just clean food made quicker.
Well Done I too make Potato chips, kale chips and sweet potato chips even Pizza if I make all the dough and cook and stack them in the freezer so they can be done later in the microwave oven. Too bad we have this mindset that cooking faster means less than perfect indeed many equate it to junk food. NOT ME. I like to grind oat bran an d use it mixed with flour it seems to be firmer but could be my imagination.

I eat oat bran for breakfast daily I leave it in the tracker along with my Supplements.
Half a chopped banana, half a cup of water 1/4 Oat bran.
Microwave on high 2 minutes.
I add AFTER cooking 2 Tbs Golden Flax seed and
1/4 of cottage cheese. We all need protein for breakfast. Stir well and love it-banana adds sweetness and potassium. A whole one is even better'
I am off to the link. SCook healthy fast meals that way you know what you eating. Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon
