Visiting loved ones.

Saturday, February 01, 2014

Today I travelled on the train to Brisbane. A friend had told me
she wasgoing to the cemetery and asked if I wanted to go long.
As I don't drive, I jumped at the chance. Left home, and walked
to the bus stop to catch the 7.31 am bus to the train station.
Of course it was 3 minutes early and left just as I was running
towards it. So annoying as I had to wait for 30 minutes for the
next one. Then an hour's train ride after that.

Arrived at my aunt's at 9.55 am and had a coffee and some cold
chicken while waiting for my ride. Then we drove to the cemetery.
I felt a certain peace as I lit candles and said special prayers.
My dad and step-mother, my grandparents and a few uncles
and aunts and good friends who were in our life while growing up.
It had been such a long time since I had been.

After that the 3 of us walked around and looked at the head-
stones and remembered people from our youth. My friends and
I reminisced. Some were past neighbours, some were 2 years
old, some old school friends. We said hello and remembered.

Life is so precious and we don't know how long we are here for.
It is a fact of life that we will also end up there and we should not
be afraid, but instead embrace life and live a happy and healthy life..
I sure hope that people will care enough to remember me and
come to light a candle once in a while. We all felt sad but realised that
it was good to 'visit' and remember... One of my friends said that going together was a healing time for her as she couldn't bear to go to her
sister's graveside in 2 years. We helped each other today.

May God grant our family and friends eternal peace. RIP. emoticon

Memories of loved ones should not make us sad. It is just the date of their passing that makes us sad. Do something fun for yourself now in honour of those who are gone.

Great blog, thank you! emoticon

enjoyed reading this. Great idea. I never thought of doing this. I should do this with my grandmother who died on my 16th birthday and I have unresolved issues with this one.
Life is precious.

My husband and I do this for Memorial Day. We go to 5 cemeteries and decorate a lot of graves. It gives me a sense of peace as well as I know my loved ones realize that I do this for them.

Happy for you! That is so nice you can just hop a train and go all over like that! We don't have that close to us! Enjoy the rest of your day and weekend.

I used to live right next to a cemetery.. (actually that has happened twice so far)
In those years, quite often I would just walk around and read the stones and wonder about the people's lives those stones represented. I loved my neighbors who lived in the cemetery.. they were the best.

Walking through a cemetery is the most peaceful time looking at loved ones headstones.
