Snowy Friday

Friday, January 31, 2014

It started snowing yesterday afternoon, but I guess it was too warm for it to stick.. By late last night it was sticking, but the base decided to remain open and on normal reporting time today :( It was a huge bummer. I was looking forward to a snow day off. Plus, the roads were really bad to drive in this morning - I think someone made the wrong call. It stopped snowing for a bit this morning, but it is snowing again, so I am crossing my fingers on an early release. My boss who is in town on leave even emailed me and said she wasnt coming in to my office to visit because of the weather and road conditions! Either way, if it starts looking dangerous out there, I am sending myself and my paralegal home early. No need to risk a car accident!

Last night I went to my jazz dance class, and it was good to be back in class after missing a week and a half of classes. They had started learning our recital dance last week when I missed class, so I was pretty lost with everything they had learned, but picked up on all of the new stuff. The teacher stayed after class with me to go over the beginning part that I had missed and now I feel good about it. I definitely felt less stressed after I left class, too. That is always a plus! And I am really liking this dance! Looking forward to my classes on Tuesday, and finally starting tap again!

My crafting meetup tonight that I had planned to go to (and was really looking forward to going to) was just cancelled due to weather. That is good. I was probably going to skip anyway because of the weather if it wasnt cancelled since it is a half hour drive to get there. Now I wont feel so bad, though I will miss going. I will make it to Art Journal club on Monday, though. They also posted a knitting class in March, and I am already signed up! I know how to crochet, but I never learned how to knit, so I am looking forward to that!

Next week (Wednesday-Saturday) is the Rocky Mountain Sewing Expo in Denver. I debated on whether to go or not, but yesterday I decided to jump in, and I purchased my ticket to get in, and paid to attend two classes on Saturday! One is a zentangle class - its like doodling I suppose. And one is a pillow making class. I am pretty excited! There will also be a vendor mall, and I will have a two hour break between my classes to wander around. I am really looking forward to this. :)

I also made an appointment to pamper myself tomorrow, and get my hair done. I havent gotten my hair done since August - so its been almost 6 months! I'm planning to get a trim and some highlights/lowlights. My hair has gotten really long, but I am not ready to really cut it yet, so probably only an inch or two. I am excited, though. I love getting my hair done - I find it really relaxing.

I also have to run 11 miles this weekend. I wanted to run outside since I've been doing all of my long runs on a treadmill this training season so far, but with the snow, and snow expected all day tomorrow, too.... it looks like I'll be stuck on the treadmill yet again.

I am still contemplating getting a private gym membership... I had went to Planet Fitness and looked into their membership, but I wasnt a fan of their membership terms, and the women at the front counter were really rude. I am now considering the local YMCA... It's more money - I think $5o... since when did YMCAs get so expensive? It's relatively close to my house... They have a pool. The hours arent FANTASTIC, but I think they are workable - I dont like that they are only open for 4 hours on Sundays though... The joining fee is 50% off, but only through today. I cant decide if the YMCA is worth it. I'm tired of the base gym - especially their treadmills that turn off after an hour. When I did my 10 mile run in Montana - the treadmill at that gym did not turn off after an hour. It was much nicer. *sigh* I am indecisive about this. One of my friends - well a girl I am friendly with - wanted me to do cross fit with her, but I cant justify $120/month on top of my dance classes which are about $80/ month. Which is why I am looking into private gyms, but I dont want to spend an arm and a leg either...

Oh well... just rambling now. I made it to the grocery store after work last night, so I am stocked up on some healthy gluten-free foods to cook this weekend. My acid reflux is back with a vengeance so I really need to get this under control once again.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Glad you got to catch up on your dancing. I have a Planet Fitness Membership and I only go really for the basics and it costing me $27 dollars a month, plus a yearly fee. I end up spending about half the month doing hour sessions. So Sorry the girl at the counter was rude. Mine are really nice and very helpful. Hope you can find a gym that you like.

The Expo sounds really exciting, have fun and enjoy it., and have fun with the pampering. I love it when I can have me time at the beauty parlor or spa.

We are blessed with an indoor rec center in our little community and it has helped me stay on course with my fitness program. Blessings upon you and yours this weekend.

I love my YMCA membership. Planet fitness is good if you just need basic equipment.. but I love taking the classes the YMCA offers.. I do Cardio Kickboxing, yoga, and Bodypump. (In addition to the machines) To me, it's worth paying more.

I feel ya running outside. Here in Baltimore it's been SO cold (single digits.. about 25 deg below avg for this time of year.) We've also been having unusual amounts of snow.. which makes long runs not want to happen. Is there a local running group you can train with? My friends are the only reason I make it outside these days lol.

Take good care of yourself and keep dancing.

Get the gym membership if you think you'll use it enough to justify the expense to yourself. If you think - for example - you'll be putting in 4 hours a week and it cost-averages to $60.00 per week fees, that is a rate of $15.00 / hour. If it comes out as $20.00 oer week, then your cost is $5.00 / hour. If you are only going to make it to the gym 2 hours a week, the cost per hiur goes up and you need to decide if you find that a valid expense.

Enjoy getting your hair done. That sewing exposition sounds fun!

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass ...
It's about learning to dance in the rain!
