Mental Organization (2014- Blog #30)

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Thank goodness for long commutes. Mine is about 40 miles one way... and through ok traffic. I know many ways to get to the same place, so I can avoid most snarls. Why is that good? Because it is about my only down time all day and I can regroup, refocus, rethink and breathe. So much is going on at work that being able to just take the time to think about what I want to do is a relief. (When I got to the gym, I really cannot think. It takes too much for me not to fall off the dang treadmill!)

Today I thought about mentally organizing my next few months. What do I want to accomplish and by when? My thoughts thus far:

GOALS for the next few months
emoticon Wake up each day and breathe deeply and focus on staying true to self.
emoticon Lose 10 pounds by April 1
emoticon Hit my water goal every day.
emoticon Limit latté intake to 2 per week.
emoticon Run/Walk at least 15 miles per week.
emoticon Bike at least 50 miles per week.

I am doing well with my weight loss, my latté intake and my running/walking. I need to work on waking up and paying attention rather than launching myself headlong into the day. I have not ridden my bike in the first week of January.. kind of giving myself a break. Need to get back int eh saddle since my first events are upon me! My water .. argh... I do really well some days and other days I just don't. But, it is getting better. I must say I am hitting at least 4 cups a day every day and 8 cups on a good day.

Now for my events that are planned out - farther than April. This keeps me in shape.
emoticon February - Worst Day of the Year Ride #4
emoticon March - Shamrock Run #3
emoticon April - Run for the Roses #2
emoticon May - Silverton Fun Run #5
emoticon May - Reach the Beach #2
emoticonJune: Starlight Parade 5K #2
emoticon June:Flying Wheels Ride #4
emoticonJune:Vancouver Half Marathon #4
emoticon June:Petal Pedal #3
emoticon June:Blue Lake Duathlon #1 - not sure yet
emoticon July: Cascade Lock to Crown Point #3
emoticon July: Seattle to Portland Ride #4
emoticon August: Pdx Bridge Ride #3
emoticonAugust:Hood to Coast #3

I get excited when I see my list of events. It gets me thinking about what I need to get done between now and the next event. I still have to find my fourth triathlon. It has to be late summer or early fall because I have to get my swim legs and arms back in shape.

So that's my plan! Feels very good, amidst all my crazy work stuff to have this steady anchor called events and my goals.

    You're making me tired!
I enjoyed my 100 mile daily commute until one day when the job got to be too much.

You have focus and determination. Awesome list of events. I know they are a great motivator.

Water has to become a ritual like your first coffee in the morning. Get a special cup, that you tote with you around the house, one for the car, and one for the workplace. I have a 32 oz water container with a lid, and a straw. If I lose it, I panic, not that I do not have any glasses around, but I run around the house looking for it, and earn extra steps along the way.

Your mountain is especially inviting today.

I love how you redirect yourself to get back to where you want to be.
Such a productive use of commute time! Utilizing the time to map out your plans is splendid.
Not only can you do it .... You will do it.

I'm really frustrated by the coming event season because it seems like, other than 5ks, everything I want to do is happening during weekends when I'm already committed to something else.

(Yes, I know: I'm missing the MS150 because I will be in Italy that weekend; poor pitiful me! emoticon )

But I have managed to sign up for only one HFP sanctioned tri because the other ones are either more than 3 hours away or during weekends when I really do have something else scheduled. Have to comb through the event lists again.

Good on you for taking the time to think and plan for yourself. The frantic pace of life can easily get in the way.
Great plans.

A great list! And from a selfish point of view, since my commitment for this year includes a reduced list, I'll look forward to following yours, virtually! emoticon emoticon m emoticon emoticon Spark on!

1st off I am wowed by your list. You certainly are not a slacker and I like that! I know you have a full schedule so exercise to you is a healthy priority in life. Keeps the heart pumping and the body lean and vital.

2ndly your quote: "The way we choose to see the world creates the world we see."
Barry Neil Kaufman

The SUBconscious mind is where choice resides. We cant change our conscious thoughts which are knee-jerk reactions from the subconscious decisions. We CAN look at all of what we see/experience with a gentle smile on our face and continue on our path. Reacting to the battle within is what keeps the battle alive.

Projection makes perception.

How on earth do you find the time for all those events?! Yikes!

I heard/read somewhere that if you can drink half your water before noon, you will have no problem finishing the rest. Typically that has held true for me. I also stopped getting hung up on the amount. I just drink water and it seems the more I drink it, the more I want it. I keep a glass quart milk filled with water and I seem to refill it at least once a day and drink most of that second quart by the time I wake up in the morning. (I get up in the middle of the night for water, too!)
