Just Start!

Today, I reinforced what I have learned about getting my exercise done. I just need to start.

It was a frustrating morning starting with coming downstairs to discover one of the dogs had had diarrhea and an accident. Let them out and cleaned that up. Then found that the pipes to the downstairs bathtub had frozen. And the hot water heater wasn't working. Dealing with all of that left me with little desire to exercise, but this afternoon I told myself I had scheduled Tabata intervals on the elliptical for today and for heaven sakes, it was only 4 minutes so go up and start.

Of course, it's more than 4 minutes. 7-8 minute warm up, then the 4 minutes of intervals and 7-8 minutes cool down. When I finished that, I checked my fitbit and saw I had a few hundred steps to the next thousand so decided I'd do a few minutes more.

After I reached that goal, I realized I only had another 3 tenths to make it 1.5 miles so I kept going. Reached that goal and thought, I might as well go for a round number of minutes.

By the time I said enough, I'd done 40 minutes and 2.1 miles. Because I got off my duff and started. So the next time, life is crazy and your motivation to exercise got lost in the chaos, start your walk, or video, or get on the machine just for a few minutes. You may surprise yourself.

    that's exactly what happens to me. I go in thinking just 10 mins and before I know it, I've done 15 mins and I tell myself...5 more to make it 20 and then when I hit 20, just 10 more to 30 and on and on. its such a mind game and what a game it is. we WIN!!! have an awesome weekend and thanks for commenting on my blog and all of your support. emoticon emoticon emoticon
