Was watching the Blazers v. Denver game last week - great game! Our man LaMarcus was at the free throw line often! And here is what I noticed about this very very talented guy, who has probably shot thousands and thousands of balls from the free throw line in his life. There he was at the line.. and every single time, he focused. He focused on his delivery. He focused on the basket. He looked several times before delivering his shot. I'll bet he practices that shot over and over and over - no matter how good he gets.
Here's what I learned by watching him. No matter how "good you are" you always have to keep your eye on the basket. You can't waver or stop paying attention and still expect to make the basket. And.. when you miss, you just got up the next time with just as much focus.. right away!
I think that in our "healthy living journeys", we get complacent, over confident or lazy. We take our eye off the basket and still expect the same results as if we were focused. We stop practicing and expect the same results. We have to keep looking up. We have to keep checking. We have to recommit if we miss the target. We have to keep our eye on the goal.
Here's to keeping our eyes on the basket!
