Food Relationships.....

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

I have jumped onto the SparkWagon and fell off the wagon more than a few times over the past 4 years. The fall starts with an innocent food on the "do not eat" list. Huge slice of pizza, frozen yogurt, fried chicken, Carls Jr. $6.00 Burger....etc. Before long, matter of a few shot weeks, all the foods that were on the" no-no" list are reintroduced back into the diet. Then all the hard work to lose weight and eating clean are left behind. But not forgotten because I was healthy for that period.
My problem is many of the foods I should eat I just do not like. Not a big vegetable fan. Almost have a hard time looking a lettuce leaf in the face. I have a tendency to eat the same foods everyday and that last for months. Once I burn out on a particular food my choices are more limited. My staples I never seem to lack the taste for are eggs, 100% egg whites, split pea soup, hamburger, potatoes, chicken, and turkey. When I cook I start with an onion and build a meal around it.
My relationship with food needs work. I do not eat just to eat. I eat to "fill-the-pit". If I eat very low calorie foods and hit satiety I am happy with that. However I do pay attention to the calories my body needs for the day and if I am short calories at the end of the day I will find a healthy higher calorie food to compensate. I try to shy away from foods I really like because I will have a tendency to overeat. But if the "really like" foods are on my plate I try to find other low calorie filler foods to satisfy the satiety.
However my motivation to lose weight and be more healthy keeps the SparkWagon in sight. Currently I am back on the SparkWagon with a good grip...at least with one hand and working on getting the other hand with the same grip.
