Smiling at the Gym (2014 - Blog #26)

Monday, January 27, 2014

I really looked forward to going to the gym today. That is not always the case for me because I much prefer to walk, run, cycle outside. Yesterday was a gorgeous day and the run was just perfect. Today was gym day because by the time I get home, it is dark and dangerous to run outside. But I was upbeat and ready to enjoy the workout.

So I really became mindful about the environment. And several things that I saw made me smile. A few them...
emoticon about 100 people all in their own little worlds... working out with gusto
emoticon people of all shapes and sizes moving, jumping, pumping, sweating, challenging themselves
emoticon the positive POSSIBILITY that hung in the air
emoticon a young man in a wheelchair who had command of the place - his upper body a work of muscle and persistence - he blew my mind.
emoticon a lady of about 65 who worked on the weights for the entire hour I was there and her body SHOWED the diligence - she totally rocked!!!
emoticon way more women in the weight area than I have ever seen
emoticon middle-aged friends giving each other the thumbs up for a job well done
emoticon active kids in high school who spotted each other at the weight bench
emoticon and me... I was smiling at me for sticking with my goals to be at the gym.

Today just felt good, comfortable, right. One of the huge positives of the gym is the amazing energy that WORKING OUT IS DOABLE!

Here's to finding things to smile about in life...

Not a gym person here, but I found the same type of spirit at the pool. It is amazing what we can see if we just look.

Love the quote.

On Sunday I saw an 80-year-old woman doing weights. I noticed her because she had a jaunty little scarf tied around her neck. Lifting weights AND setting style trends at 80?!? What's not to like!!!!

Loved this blog! For me one of the best things about my Y is the range of people there: all ages (yup, pre-born preggy mums, little kids, teens, full range of adults to the very elderly), all cultures, all colours, all sizes and shapes, folks in wheel chairs maintaining upper body strength for transfers, folks with developmental challenges playing basketball together with big whoops of pleasure . . it is totally inspiring. .

Absolutely great feeling "at home" in the gym... the separate worlds but common purpose... to get it done, to live a better life... kind of like... starting lines? emoticon emoticon

What we see "outwards" is our inward state. I'd say you did indeed enjoy the gym.

One of my favorite activities when I am on the treadmill is to watch the people. There is a family of brothers who come in and work out. They ar the best.
