Day 27 "Eat Dessert When it's Special"

I think I've got this one. I was following the No Excuses Workout with Jonathan Roche. One of his secrets for weight loss success:

"Limit yourself to one dessert once per week This could save you 300 calories per day on the six non-dessert days (1,800 calories per week). Since you have to burn 3,500 more calories than you consume to lose 1 pound, this new habit alone could lead to you losing 1 pound every two weeks or 26 pounds in one year!"

Here's a link to Jonathan's website:

It also helps that my cardiologist says to have ice cream only occasionally, like on my birthday. LOL! That's "seldom" not "occasionally" in my book. But it really helps keep me in bounds because I know it's good for my heart. If you're new to my blog, I have a congenital heart murmur. That means I was born with it. It doesn't hold me back from working out strenuously. But, the cardiologist doesn't want me running marathons or even 5ks. That's OK. I prefer dancing to running any day.

Growing up we never had dessert and cake was limited to birthdays.
I went back to that way of eating - and dessert is now a special treat :)

You always come up with interesting ideas! Thanks for sharing!
By dessert, I suppose you mean the heavy one, like a piece of cake, not a piece of fruit?
My mum keeps on making a cake a week, on Sunday lunch, and I remember that as such a treat! Now I'm growing up (!), I may even consider doing the same with the kids...

We usually have dessert on special occasions and I make it as healthy as possible. I like fruit and to me it's like dessert.

emoticon I was raised on the "seldom" plan for desserts. I got to the daily all on my own in my 40's. Funny how that works. That's when the weight gain started.
