So frustrated.

2.5 months, roughly, of working out with the trainer. I'm UP seven pounds, everyone keeps telling me to just be patient and I'm thinking HELLO 196??? I'm exercising & watching what I eat, why am I gaining????

I've been taking my progress photos - every month on the work out day closest to the 15th, after the work out. They're so terrible I don't even want to upload them.

    Are you eating enough calories? There is a balance between exercise and calorie intake. Are you following the Spark People guild lines? Measuring your food is important too. When I started, my concept of 1 cup was way off. If you don't already have one, I would encourage you to purchase a kitchen scale.

Also, as was said before, muscle weighs more than fat, so don't focus on the bathroom scale.

    Have you been weighing & tracking all your food?

I read that diet accounts for 80% while exercise only accounts for 20% in weight loss. ( I don't know if that is an accurate stat. )

This is truly the most important part of weight loss. Calorie for calorie, itís easier to lose weight by dieting than by exercise.

It makes sense: There's just not enough time in the day to exercises off an extra 2000 calories.

    Zosbos, that's a good point about measurements - I forgot to get January's measurements, but there was no significant change from November to December.

On the other hand, I have a pair of jeans that didn't fit at all a few weeks ago, as in I couldn't get them over my hips. The other day I grabbed them by accident and got them on & closed, but they were too tight to wear comfortably. Definitely an improvement there though.

    I really feel your frustration! It is so upsetting when you're really working hard but you just don't see it on the scales.
A few things to consider - is the work with the trainer building muscle - which weighs heavier than fat?
Did you take your measurements up front? You are probably getting gains in terms of toning up, if not on the scales.
It might be worth a few days of meticulously weighing and measuring everything you eat, just to make sure your calories are within range (if you're not doing that already!).
If you are creating a calorie deficit through your exercise and food choices then the weight has to come off sometime.
