the calm before another storm

Friday, January 24, 2014

I got a little nervous today when the maintenance team came to work on the vacant condo below me. I thought I would be choking all day (weather being so cold). But thank heaven the worst event was just that someone parked in my space (even with an otherwise empty parking lot). I'm practicing being grateful for small things.

I played with my slow cooker again and threw some caramelized onions, celery, carrots, green bell peppers, and skinless chicken thighs with 1 small can of broth. Excellent...more stew than soup. It makes the tastiest veggies. And if I need a starch fix, I throw some chickpeas in when I'm ready to reheat for my meal. I'm cutting way back on starch carbs.

The back is almost normal today. I was able to sit for an hour and drive to the supermarket without too much discomfort. I'll definitely need to strengthen my back area when I get a little better. I still wince when I try to get up too fast.

I've been taking 1 Aleve 2x a day. I'm not normally a pill popper so I'm hoping this ends soon.

  Hi Sheryl..........
So glad to hear your back is almost normal again. Has your doctor ever suggested doing core exercises for your back? I have a lot of lower back pain, due to Osteoarthritis, and if I keep up with the core exercises, it really does seem to help.

Take care in all of this cold. I emoticon my Slow Cooker too and use it whenever possible.

Have a good weekend........ emoticon

When I practice being grateful, but still feel annoyed, I plot revenge. I know, I know, must be positive and not spend energy on negative thoughts (although not nearly as satifying).

Your slow cooker chicken sounds yummy. I'm planning on making chicken cacciatore in the slow cooker today. Thanks for reminding me. I have to defrost the chicken.

Glad to hear you're almost normal--er, your back is almost normal!

I like to throw frozen chicken breast in the crock pot with different types of marinade. Shred it with a fork and serve it over rice with a quick veggie and it's an easy dinner when we get home from work.

glad your back is getting better

great attitude, too!

your dinner sounds good

I looked at the Publix specials ad online before I headed home - they had chili on sale in the deli so I decided I'd stop on the way home. I read the label and the sodium was way up there. I bought 2 containers of the chili, some canned low sodium kidney beans, no salt added tomato sauce and made a pot of chili.
Very tasty, I got the sodium WAY down, and now I have enough for 2 or 3 more meals.

have a great weekend

I'm so glad that your back is steadily getting better. My DH has to take Aleve for his back pains too or whatever the pain is at the time, with working on our dairy farm. Today it's been quite a migraine from who knows what, but that Aleve can sure do wonders! Also, your stew sounds yummy! Those slow cookers are cooks in our very own kitchens!! WooHoo for them! Have a great week-end!! emoticon

Hopefully you will get a good new neighbor and not another nut job. What does one do when some butthole parks in their space in your area? I know what happens around here typically (we have a penal institution here in every county- all full to the rafters.)

I love crock pot cooking. I use mine year round.

I have been thinking about strengthening my back area lately too. Then I will at least have a strong back even if I have a weak mind. Right now, everything is weak.

Glad your back is on the mend. I understand about those parking in your space when there are tons of others around. I have an issue with awful neighbors who, among other things that are more than annoying, use my driveway to turn around even though they could make a k-turn in the street. It is rude and unnecessary for them to do and just one more thing I have to overlook. Seems like a small thing, but it's not when I've had my fill of these people in other problematic situations.
