Rest Days

Our school has been closed for the past two days due to icy, snowy roads. I have not been to the gym since Tuesday. For the first time in a long time I am ok with that. Yesterday I slept. Apparently I really needed to catch up. I also drank over a gallon of water. Apparently I was dehydrated as well. Today i had an early appointment and really did not feel like going to the gym at 5:30 especially since I did not "have" to. So I got some laundry and cleaning done.
Now I have a few minutes before leaving for the Y. Appointments and wellness hours this afternoon:) Hopefully the roads aren't too bad,

I am finding there are weeks that I can work out 7 days a week. Then there are times that I need a day (or two) to recover. I find myself practicing what I am telling members at the Y. Listen to your body. If it tells you to go, go. If it tells you to rest, rest. Be sure you know the difference. Could I have worked out today? Sure. I would love to go to spin tonight, but can't due to working at the Y. Discovering balance is a very good thing:)

How many rest days do you take a week? Do you schedule them or rest when needed?

    Good points. I think it's a product of achieving a high fitness level that makes us feel guilty about rest days

Way back when, I used to look for excuses NOT to work out. Today I look for excuses TO work out

I try to do ST 4 days/week, dedicated cardio 2 other days, with some HIIT on some ST days. Saturday is my rest day. With my ST program however, I lift hard for 3 weeks, then take a deload week where I lift only about 50% of my max

Now that I've thrown in 3 nights/week of Brazilian Jui Jitsu, I am acutely aware of how important rest is. I have no problem going to bed at 8:30 if I'm tired

I'm watching my mood and energy levels....an extra rest day might just be in order to allow the body to heal up

    I definitely am learning that rest days are important. I had a great personal training workout today, but I was tired and I could feel it in my bones and my muscles. This balance things is tough - you'd think after all this time it would be easier to figure out.

    I do my cardio on Mon., Wed., & Fri. Then strength training is Tues., & Thurs. I do my cardio at home sometimes inside (if weather is bad) or outdoors. I take the weekend off always to spend time with my husband.
