Habits

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Day 17 of the fatloser.com video series concerned habits. Here are the things I took away:

Habits can be constructive or destructive.
Habits are STRONG and can have addictive qualities.

Most behavioral habits can be broken.
It takes sucking it up and staying tough. (being tempted and not succumbing.)
It takes responding like a thinking adult rather than an emotional child. (delayed, rather than immediate, gratification.)

Use conscious thought rather than unconscious reactionary reflex from years of old thought processes on which to base your actions.
Build your own habits.

I like Susannah's comment..First you make habits, then habits make you. One really needs to make successful habits and to stick to them! However, changing habits requires adult action.

Your successful habits are keeping you on track in maintenance. Way to go!

I agree with travelgrrl...I'm enjoying my good habits so much now that I don't feel right, I feel guilty, almost down when I don't exercise. I like being on track!

Yes, I was like a child yesterday...I took one bite of the power bar I had made and my husband yelled, "What are you doing? You can have seeds or nuts with your tooth extraction! You're like a child!". I really was, it was my impulsivity that made me take that bite. Taming our impulsive behavior is what we have to do. I quickly made some soft Greek yogurt and agave nectar instead. I think it's important not to get too hungry so you don't grab impulsively like a child. The adult would plan ahead and have fruit or small healthy snacks on hand or wait...

Great thought points in your lessons....

This was a pretty straightforward video.
Habits are at the center of any changes we make here.

You're sure got this habits thing pegged -- and of course, your results show it!

It's hard to disagree with this day's lesson!

In the "old days" exercising was something I had to psyche myself up to do. Now when I take a rest day I feel guilty all day!

I agree that we have to think like "adults" rather than spoiled children. Yesterday I wanted a snack to watch during TV hour but didn't, because I knew it wasn't really hunger. Yay for beating down that spoiled child!
