Last night, after work, I went to the gym to try and work off some of the nervous energy surrounding still not hearing back from the job.
I know I should just forget about it and they'll call me when they call me but it's just so nerve wracking. But anyways, I went to the gym and decided to try and do a 5k on the treadmill. I've never been able to really run on treadmills. For whatever reason, I'm pretty sure it's mental, I've never been able to keep a steady pace and always end up having to slow down, even though when I run outside I can run 10:30 or 11 minute miles with little to no effort.
Well last night, I just decided I was going to conquer the treadmill. I ran my first mile changing between 5-6mph and finished it in 10:43. I was ecstatic! I believe I saw it in HOLLYS_NEW_LIFE's blog, it was something to the effect of "Your legs aren't giving up, you are." So I kept pushing, slowed my second mile down to around 5.3 mph, until I got to 2.5 miles completed. I just decided to push myself as hard as I could, and I ran the last 0.6 miles on the treadmill at 7 mph! I couldn't believe it. I'd never been able to stay at a pace that high for more that .1 or .2 miles before having to turn it down.
But I'm now realizing how much my head played into that. I've probably been capable of it for a while, but I've just never pushed myself that hard. But more and more, I'm realizing, even at 180 pounds, I'm capable of so much more than I ever imagined. I've become an athlete!
And I love it.
Try something new today. See what you're capable of. I promise you won't regret it.
Love you Sparkfriends!
