Oh no...spilled water on my laptop keyboard

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

So now I am using my IPad to blog which isn't as easy without the keyboard. My laptop keyboard is going crazy. Have any of you ever done this and does it eventually come back? I dried it the best I could and lightly used the hair dryer but still frustrating to use.....any recommendations?

otherwise it,s a beautiful day here in Mexico. I see that many folks are getting hit with snow again.
Keep warm and have a great Tuesday,
Sallie

Just let it dry as best you can and it may work again.

If your keyboard is acting whacky. It's too late, the damage has been done. Some times, if a person is fast enough and can catch the spill, the keyboard will recover. However, if you touch a key and the screen goes wild, that's not good.

If your laptop keyboard is fried, you should still be able to use an external USB keyboard. Do you use a desktop at home ? if it's a USB, you can plug that into your laptop and bypass the laptop keyboard.

Here's your dilemma. The system board for the laptop is right under the keyboard. Some of the water might have seaped onto the system board. if that's the case, then you will need to have the system board replaced. You should check to see what your warranty is on the unit.

How to know ? Using an external keyboard connected to the USB port will tell you if the system board is fried or not. If an external keyboard works, then all you need is to have your keyboard replaced. that is a pretty easy fix on laptops. If the external keyboard acts whacky, then you definitely need that system board swapped out.

Sorry.

When I dropped my Walkman into the water, I rescued it and took it apart, putting it under a hand dryer. The key is drying it right away., inside and out. If water has gotten to the inside, it could damage the parts there.
Hope its fixable..

Is it under warranty, still? I spilled blueberries and juice all over my husband's keyboard. Don't ask! Anyway, we called Dell and it was the last day of the warranty. Now what are the chances of that one!? They picked it up and took it away for repair and returned it to us in a few days, all for no charge!

Your computer should be able to be saved. Let it completely dry out and see how it works then. If you still have problems you might have to take it in and get it check out. Enjoy your Beautiful Warm Sunny Weather you are having in Mexico now too. Have a Great Day. Keep Sparking!!!

It is probably too late, but you need to turn it upside down and in a ziplock bag filled with rice. Hope you are lucky this time!

Google "what to do if you spill water on your laptop". A lot of info is suggested. I once put a kids DS in the washer (check pockets now) and his Dad was able to save it. DH fell into the lake with cell phone and that was saved also.

Good Luck.
