Tough few months!!

Saturday, January 18, 2014

I feel bad that I have not been around since the first part of November. Two surgeries in that time have pretty much taken the spirit out of me for a while.
After my knee replacement around the first of November, I was out of action a lot longer than I expected, but it is coming along pretty well now. I am still doing therapy so I can get all the movement and strength back.
As soon as I was off the crutches, I had surgery on my hand. The Dr. cleaned up a mess in the joint between my thumb and the rest of the bones in the wrist. All the cartilage was gone, so I had bone on bone.
I finally got the cast removed last Friday and now I have a removable splint. I started therapy to get my thumb moving again, but that is slower (and more painful) than the knee.
I plan to start checking in with SparkPeople again soon. It is hard to type with one hand.
I am not writing this to complain, but to thank all my spark friends for their concern and to apologize for not up-dating everyone sooner.
As things continue to improve, I will get back on schedule as soon as possible.
Again, thank you all for your thoughts and well wishes.

There were a number of us that were concerned when we had not seen you for some time. I hope you are healing well and can use your hand. I used a voice recognition program for awhile when I had issues with my hands.

    Apologizing for surgeries...?

WAY not necessary! :-)

Sounds like things are settling down for you now, hoping for some smooth sailing and bright SPARKIN'!

Thanks for checking in with us: so sorry that you've had such a tough stretch. I've had hand surgery for thumb joint problems too and it was incredibly painful . . . much worse than several "bigger" surgeries . . . so you definitely have my sympathy. In time the physio made quite a difference: sure hope it does for you too. (Ask for the warm wax treatment: very soothing!!)

That is the one thing about Sparking:if we stop posting, people like ME worry to distraction..Did he die? Move away? Just stop his new lifestyle?

Even typing one or two words to let us know you are breathing, but out of commission is okay.. We CAN be patient...LOL!

So glad your surgeries are finished.
