I noticed that I had not blogged yet this year so I decided I should write one about how I feel now that I have been able to keep my weight off for the last 6 months.
What is interesting, is that losing and maintaining are so similar.
I still have to think about what and how much I am going to eat. Which after being on spark for 19 months now, is no longer really a thought, it is more of a way of life. It is just what I do.
I encouraged my husband to just try spark and if he didn't like it, then at least he tried it. After the first few weeks of being frustrated and not sure where everything was, he was hooked.
Then I saw the spark activity tracker, and I ordered one. I thought about keeping it, but I have a fitbit that I really like, so I gave it to my husband. Again, he kind of grumbled about it and said he didn't really want to use it, but I asked him to just try it for a month and see if he liked it.
Well guess what, he loved it. One day he went out and shoveled and did all kinds of work outside and when he came in, he was annoyed because he forgot to wear his tracker.
I told him that is a sure sign of being a sparker!
When people ask me how I lost the weight, I tell them about SP. When the ask me if I gave up different kinds of food, I tell them no. Not really. Just fast food and ordering pizza out.
I still eat pizza on occasion, but now it is thin crust and usually vegetarian or only one kind of meat. The simpler the better.
When I am down working out on the treadmill and have the TV on, I see all the fast food commercials and they don't even look good. The one time of day that it bothers me is right before I go to bed at night, because I am just a little hungry then. But the thought of eating that makes my arteries cry out for mercy!
It really is easier to cook to maintain now that my husband is doing this too because it makes both of us much more aware of the ingredients going into our food.
My husband is Greek and so we cook with olive oil frequently. He use to just pour as much olive oil as he wanted on the food he was cooking or the salad he was preparing.
Now that he has to track it, he measures it and it still tastes delicious with less on it.
For those that will are close and will be switching to maintenance soon, my advice is to still track and keep up with your exercise and continue to do pretty much everything you are doing to lose the weight. One is not different than the other, you just get a few more calories each day.
It is worth the time and effort to keep up the tracking!
Thanks for being with me on this journey, I have made so many wonderful friends and even though I have never met them in person, I know that you are all special to me anyway and someday I hope to meet many of you in person!
Keep up the great work and enjoy the journey!
