Which meal do you recommend?

Saturday, January 18, 2014

Hi wonderful community,

how is your weekend going so far?

I am going to meet up with a friend early evening for a meal and rather than me feeling guilty tomorrow, just thinking what would be the best meal to go for other than salad?

I have also thought that I will put down my fork after every mouthful, drink water, go for light options, and share a dessert if we are tempted. One of my SP friends, told me that it is the first two mouthful that are enough, so with that in mind, I should be ok.

I love Chinese, Indian, goes without saying Italian, in fact most food!

Do you have any suggestions?

Eager to hear what your choices were ! Moderation is key and eat as many veggies and lean protein. That being said, Italian is probably not the best choice !

emoticon Everything in moderation however, since you asked.........I'd go with half of my plate being veggies, a fourth with protein and the rest good carbs for a nice balance of my daily requirements. Share the dessert if you feel the need. I realize that I don't want to waste good calories nor a good healthy diet plan with emotional or eating something that I'd regret later. Just some food for thought! Enjoy your fellowship and your meal! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hope you did alright with your meal when you went out! If you are eating a meal, I think the 2 bite rule is amended pretty much. You have to eat properly! When I go out to eat I try to do chains or a place that has their nutritional information posted or on the menu so I know what I am getting myself into.
I don't eat bread or the appetizers and no dessert or sugary drinks and that eliminates a ton of cals off the top right there. I try to order a meal that is steamed or baked, no white foods except cauliflower and little to no cheese. A restaurant that I like that is nearby I usually have the salmon, brown rice and broccoli and I escape with 600 calories for the meal~

I don't usually like to order a starter. I do - i will not be able to eat my main. For main i prefer fish, not because its healthy but i prefer to have something light in the evening. As for desert - glass of wine will do fine for me. Hope you are having great night out!

So many choices, so many tools. I'd pick a restaurant that has its menu online and then pick my dishes, calculate the calories before hand, log it beforehand - so I have to comply when I go to the restaurant.

for breakfast i go for egg white omelette with spinach and mushroom filling, tell them to grill the mushrooms and dont take the bread. Black coffee or coffee with fat free milk only. Lunch i tend to go for subway - 6 inch italian (scoop out the bread) with the roast chicken - no cheese, and loaded with fresh veges, and a diet soda, DInner you can have a good portion of fish with roasted veges (dry roasted) with a little brown rice. Be careful of the sauces and in the meals like chinese and italian you have the pasta which is not great, the sauces are sodium loaded or cheese loaded - all this defeats the object as for days you will have to diet to get back to the program. Try and remember you are getting your body to be in a healthy metabolic state and to upset this you will set yourself back. Is it worth a meal that will take half and hour to eat. Rather focus on the time with the friend and not the meal with a friend.

#1 is skip the desert! #2 drink tons of water before you go. #3 eat fruit before you go. #4 Whatever you eat make certain it doesn't have MSG or high fat content.

Yes pick your restaurant and a chain is a good choice because you can go online and look at nutritional information - have your order choices ready so you don't have to look at the menu and ask that baskets of wait food (bread, crackers, peanuts) just not be brought and you would like a very large glass of icewater. If you order a starter make it a large salad with light or no cheese and dressing and croutons on the side. Remember dressing cups are about 3 servings so you might try the dip fork in dressing and spear salad method - you get the flavor but don't use that much or just do vinegar or a light dressing and only use about 1/3 of the cup of dressing they bring. Chinese can be good if they have a Mongolian grill and you can make a huge plate of stir fry - ask them to do it in water and not oil. I would just stay away from Italian. HuHot if you have one is an excellent choice - make your sauce choices be selective and you can go to their webpage and build your meal so just make not. My husband and I actually get one meal and split it between us so you could immediately ask for a to go box and put half of your meal there to take home.

Good luck.

One thing I do is I divide my meal in half as soon as it arrives. Here in America, the portions are large size so I know I can cut it in half and do okay. Once in a while, when I have done that, I have still being hungry so I eat the healthier parts of the second half and do okay. I hope this makes sense. If the second half is untouched, I have a meal for tomorrow too. emoticon

The people there with me don't even know that's what I am doing. emoticon Most of all, my friend, enjoy your time out. emoticon
