What a difference a good night's sleep makes

Friday, January 17, 2014

Yes, the world looks so much brighter after a good night's sleep. It's cool here for us but my DH turns on a space heater for me as soon as he gets up and my "space" is nice and warm...such a sweetie.

last night my DH and I watched Captain Phillips. Wow, what a movie. I thought that Tom Hanks did a wonderful job. He made me feel his pain for sure. I am surprised that he didn't get nominated for an Oscar, but who knows the politics of all of that.

Went to visit FIL and deliver some more movies for him to watch. I hate to report that he still isn't doing what will help him get better. He is not walking and exercising like he should to get back his strength. He is not getting it that he will have pain as he hasn't used the muscles for so long and for sure they will hurt after use. His surgeon prescribed a pain killer that he will be on for 10 days and then he will have a doctor visit to discuss what other treatments he needs. DH and I talked to the nurse who owns the facility where Dad is and asked her if she can talk to the doctor a head of time to tell him to be a bit harder on Dad and tell him that yes he will have pain but he has to work at it. She said she could do this. But both my DH and I are at the point where we know we can't force him and as long as he is happy where he is and happy to sit all day, watch movies, read, do crossword puzzles, be on the computer than we just have to accept that. Again it goes back to what makes him happy. For us selfishly we would like him to like where he is with the loving care so that when we travel we do not have to worry about him. We will see. In hindsight we never should have let him have the surgery.

Off to walk the dogs today then go shopping for brats and such for football Sunday when our Seahawks play the 49ers. We will have 9 people here to watch the game. My DH wants brats and my homemade baked beans. I will again cook a bunch of stuff that I won't eat. I will make my seperate meal that I like and have it ready to go and warm it to eat while everyone else eats the other stuff. I got this and it doesn't bother me as I would rather feel good.

Hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful week end coming up.
Sallie

It is cold here in Florida too. Got down to 40 or so. It's only supposed to get up into the 50's today. That is cold for here but not as cold as Wis. Fortunate for us that we can escape to warmer climate in the winter. The cooler temps here are good for sleeping, I do like that and I can wear my winter clothes.

Glad that your FIL is at least happy and must be using his brain if he is able to do crosswords. Sad that he isn't willing to make his body better. There are a lot of people much healthier that don't do that too. Hang in there! emoticon

I'm with you -- sleep is key!

We're dealing with a similar situation with my FIL. It's a real conundrum and causing a lot of stress. I hope both of our FIL situations improve!

Sorry that FIL seems to be declining due to lack of activity.
Enjoy the football game and I hope to be watching too.
That movie is definitely one I want to see.

I'm sorry your FIL still seems to be in quite a bit of pain, Sallie. It's always difficult to know how a person his age might respond to such surgery, but you and your DH did the best you could with the knowledge you had - and that his doctor had, too. He sounds like he's still adjusting fairly well after his surgery and is doing his best to make the best of everything. You've both always been kind, loving, and watching over him.

I love that the care you're taking with your dietary limitations is paying off so well and that you're feeling so much better than you used to! Now, that's what you call "pro-active." Well done! emoticon

It must be hard to watch your beloved FIL giving up like that but it is his decision to make.
    Have fun on Sunday-
we're having a few friends over to watch the Patriots beat Denver.

Hard to pull back, but your DIL is the captain and commander of his ship, hard as it is to watch him not navigating properly! Hope the "talk" works! HUGS
