Are the SP powers trying to read my mind or maybe just mad at me?

Friday, January 17, 2014

Yesterday I did blog a complaint about one particular pop-up ad. Today I logged in to discover that I already had earned one point in my nutrition tracker. HUH? I havenít eaten or recorded anything yet.

Iíve heard that some people eat while asleep. I guarantee that Iíve never sparked while asleep.

Letís see what SP thinks Iíve consumed.

Thereís one item listed for todayís dinner.
Green Giant Healthy Weight (2/3 cup prepared) 1 serving Ö 90 calories

Itís not in my favorites. Iíve never searched for it. I donít even know what it is.
Now I see that thereís a big Green Giant ad to the right of my tracker and itís thanking me for adding Green Giant to my plan. No! I didnít!

My mother used to tell me to eat my vegetables. Is this the digital equivalent?
Can an advertisement also add an item to my tracker now?

Is this the spark equivalent of identity theft? Tracker theft?
Is this somehow MY fault?

Does anyone have an explanation?

The ad has a ďclick to learn moreĒ button. Iím afraid to do that. They might ship me a monthís supply complete with invoice.

I do have an ad blocker on my computer which is about 1 year old. Only on SP are these particularly annoying things happening. I don't mind the ads that are not intrusive. I understand they are necessary, but this is crazy.

Edit:
At Giniemie's suggestion I emailed tech support and they responded quickly that they had "removed the item from my tracker." I replied - Thank you, but my question was WHY did it happen and how do I keep it from happening again. Otherwise we will all have to check our trackers very carefully to be sure nothing has been added automatically.

I think we get a point for going to the start page.
Pop up ads and those video ones that slow up the system are so annoying but hey it's FREE (the site) they have to get money somehow so we can use this great site.

I don't like it either. I also hate the ads the "travel" in front of the area I'm trying to read!

OK, Above the Green Giant food icons is the text "Click below to add a Green Giant blend to your meal plan." If you accidentally click one of the icons while changing from breakfast to lunch etc. in a drop-down menu, voila! You have a new favorite and probably some extra nutrition. It is very easy to make this happen and my guess is that it is intentional.

It happened to me as well. And it has happened
before in previous promotions for Green Giant..

It is a little creepy. I was able to remove it easily.
Yet it does seems invasive.

Yes , this happened to me also - prompting me to cut back on Spark a little - there are some system issues with this new page update - have you contacted tech support.

Happened to me, too, and I have no idea how. Because it linked to my SP info, I felt betrayed by SP.

That happened to me too. It was late at night when I noticed it. I was finishing adding my food for the day and I saw that and thought "when did I do that?"

Creepy!

Wow, guess we all better check our nutrition tracker more carefully.
Such craziness, did you ask the techs for SP? Maybe they could come up with an explanation!

Yup, the Green Giant did that to me on one occasion too . . . totally creepy. Creepy! And I am not opposed to Green Giant ads on principle or anything -- a lot of their products are pretty health (the ones without sauce) and I do buy them for adding to soups etc. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Remember the good old days when the web was not a commercial enterprise and ads were unheard of. Like you, I recognize that they are necessary, but I do wish they would go away.
