Old girlscout motto "be prepared"

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

I know you will think I am crazy but I have already started a list of things to take on our Bus trip from March 11-24th. It made me smile as I wrote something else on the list. I remember saying out loud the motto when I was a scout. Well, for sure learning this as a young person has served me well throughout my entire life. To this day I remember repeating this out loud with my troope

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

And then there were the laws we tried to live by:

I will do my best to be
Honest and Fair,
Friendly and Helpful,
Considerate and Caring,
Courageous and Strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
And to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Looking back, I am so glad that I was a scout. I learned so very much and lessons that helped me more than I ever knew they would throughout life.

I am so glad that our grandson is now a cub scout. I just think this organization is such a good thing to help instill great life lessons.

Anyone else out there happy to have been a scout?
Off to walk the dogs then off to the next village over to turn paper work in for our application for perm visa status here in Mexico.

Hope you all have a terrific day.

Good thinking. It feels good to be prepared. When we did travel more frequently I always like to pack on paper first! A lot easier to go on to packing when you can just check everything off you need instead of thinking about it as you are doing it feeling like you forgot something! Yes I agree good lessons ; )

Very exciting that you are going to Copper Canyon, my friends who went said it is AMAZING!

Yes I was a brownie and girl scout, that is where I got my love of hiking and the outdoors! (but they never succeeding in teaching me knot tying)

Not here, but I think this is a great thing for kids to get into, my niece was a Girl Guide.
Good luck on getting your permanent visa...

I still have my Brownie dress from 44 years ago, my beanie (yes, we had them then), a pin, and my "wings" patch for flying up to Girl Scouts. :D Good words/code to live by!
