Finished the 6th week since joining Sparkpeople. I have done pretty well considering that I am doing this unsupervised. My meals have been healthier but they don't follow any plan (per se) and my exercise has primarily been walking about the neighborhood and dog park for stretched at a time, but i must say, I get 1 1/2 to 2 hours of walking in every day that I can, which is much better than sitting on my butt.
This last week, both my wife and I came down with pretty severe colds. Mine knocked me totally off of my feet for two days and the recovery from the cold has hindered my ability to sustain much in activity. As a result, there were two days where I did not even try to attempt to walk, nor would I have been allowed to, and like a fool, I tried to make up ground for those missed days by walking 6+ miles before I was healthy enough to do so. As a result, my blood sugars dropped and I developed a weird sinus feeling. It seemed rather surreal. I will discuss this with my physician when I see him in early February.
When I got on the scale this morning I was happy to see that I hadn't gained any weight. The 3.2 pounds that I lost last week worried me as I thought it might just be my body overcompensating for the cold and dehydrating itself. Alas, I lost another small albeit important 0.4 pounds which tells me that I am still doing okay. All total, I have lost 6.8 pounds this month and I need to lose another 2.6 come the end.
I got a chance to connect with Tish (aka TUBLADY) whom is also a Salem area resident on Sparkpeople. Tish and I have friended one another and I hope we will meet one day. I noticed her metamorphosis when cruising the site. She has lost a remarkable 200+ pounds since joining Sparkpeople which is phenomenal. Not only that, she did it in her late 60s. She also walks but unlike me, she has other forms of exercise. Lets hope I can keep up with her and mirror her success.
