The Streak is dead. Long live the Streak!

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Monday, January 13, 2014

I had put together an impressive step Streak -- 69 days of 7,000 steps or more. The last 8 days of that streak, I put in over 10,000 steps per day.

That Streak came to a halt yesterday. For the first time in over two months, I walked less than 7,000 steps in a day.

One Streak ends.

No excuses.

No blame.

No guilt.

It happened.

A few months ago, I'd have spent a day (or week!) mentally angry with myself, and gotten stuck.

Not this time.

Another streak begins TODAY.

Today, I had reached 7,000 steps before I got to work. Not bad for a Monday morning!

In my "tool box" are all of the things I learned during my last Streak -- how to exercise while I'm away from home, how to slip in a few extra steps during the workday, how many steps it takes to walk a lap of the first floor of my home -- and a new goal!

To reach a minimum of 7,000 steps for 70 days, OR MORE! To reach 10,000 steps on as many of those days as possible.

I can't let missing the bullseye yesterday stop me. I want to be healthy, I want to be fit, and I don't have the luxury of not aiming at the target!

Good thing I have new walking shoes -- can't wait to wear them out!

WOOHOO!

How about you? What are YOUR goals for this year? Start small, but think BIG results!

I agree and I am on a new beginning. I have several goals but my main one is healthier life. One that will allow me to be a better person and enjoy myself more.

Good for you!

That's a great attitude to have. In life something will happen to change even the best plans we make. It's up to us to decide how to handle the change in plans. Yours is a great attitude. Start that streak and aim high. Good Luck.

Great attitude! We are only human which means we are not perfect and subject to fail sometime. The thing is to not beat yourself up.....just get up and go forward. I am currently on Day 29 of 10,000 steps or more and I hope to keep it going for quite some time. Here's to success!

Starting a sugar free streak today. Thank you for your prayers and thank you for your praises for healing received. Please keep them coming as I am coming down off a sugar high from losing my abstinence on Valentine candy. Another stupid human trick to once again remind me that I am an addict. CRYSTAL SUGAR sends me for a loop and demands my attention as much as alcohol or cocaine. IT shoots me to the moon and then drops me like a dying rocket. It cannot be an option if I want to live. And I do want to live free and light. March is another opportunity for a new beginning, For today I am following God's will to protect his temple that is my body from having to be contaminated with ingestion of CRYSTAL SUGAR in any of its disguises today. Victory for this day. Thanks be to God!!! emoticon

Thank you for sharing. Although I am new at this. I will strive hard to get myself in shape and good health. There is no room for excuses. I will dig deep down into my Soul and pull every hidden thing out, that may be laying dorment to keep me from reaching my goal. I will set a flooring for me that is comfortable. I will use all positive information and apply it to my everyday challenges. I will learn to love me more and the skin that I'm in. I want stop until I SING!! I will set goals throughout my mission and at least achieve one of them a DAY.. I will not be afraid to push myself beyond my expectations....I will stay in my lane so that I may arrive.. I can't weight to get started Tomorrow will be my first day to hit the pavement..A Healthier Me Is A Happy Me!!!

Seems like we have to balance streaks and commitments with life. I broke my step streak on Wednesday = had a medical procedure and was told not to exercise.
Lie goes on and I work at balance. It is critical that I choose to eat healthy most of the time and move every day. BUT there are parties and bad weather so all goes in the hopper and I figure out the right balance.

I'm in the same boat this month with my running goal. I haven't missed my goal in months. However, with a short month, travel (even though I ran lots when I was on vacation) blizzards, sub zero weather, a water main break at my gym so closed for a few days, it looks like I'm not going to make my goal. I'm not happy about it and with one day left still looking for a way to make it (next to impossible with the time I have available today), I'm with you. I'm just going to have to decide I did my best and move on to March! Thanks for sharing.

You could count your steps by the week. 49,000 or more per week. Because some days things happen and some days- your body needs to REST.

It was an impressive streak. Now a challenge to break that one.

Days I work I usually hit 10,000 -15,000, One main reason I don't want a desk job.

My goal is to try to lose 10 pounds, and to pick up, my walking outdoors. Even though, we have -29F. I'm still getting out there, heavy clothes and all. I do miss, some days, so would like to get on the ball, with that. I need to eat cleaner, as well. emoticon

My goal is to complete 1000 fitness minutes each month. To do that means to think creatively about fitting those minutes in daily when weather does not cooperate.

You have made me realize that I need to set higher goals and stick to them. I do about 4000 steps a day and miss that goal about 2 or 3 times a week! Feel guilty and sad.
Your commitment emoticon is inspiring me to do better!

Good for you!!! I am very happy that I actually got up and out to the swimming pool to do my lap/water walking this am before work!!! YAY!!!!

My goals are vast for this year!

My first and primary goal I am declaring to meet everyday: is to move everyday!

My detailed exercise goals are:
3 water aerobic classes per week
4 days - lap/water walking before work
walk doggies 4 days or evenings per week
Have at least one good hike on weekends
walk for 30 min. during my lunch breaks at work Mon-Thurs

I know that sometimes due to circumstances beyond my control my exercise regimen may vary one day to the next...BUT I am determined to readjust and make sure that I move at some portion of the day.!
