Negotiating the Price of Success

The FatLoser day 8 video was on negotiating the price of success. This topic is to prepare us for entering the part of the process that seems like painful slogging to stay on course.

The natural process is to find your level of motivation going down, to focus on the pain of the battle and to question whether the goal is really worth it.

This is where so many fail at their goals... they try to change what is required of themselves, resulting in more comfort, not realizing that the outcome then changes to something less than the goal they said they wanted. This is how I regained all my weight previously. I wanted more comfort, so I quit restricting calories and stopped exercising. I got comfortable, all right, but I didn't stay at my goal. This time will be different!

Other things He said today that caught my attention:

- We are the product of our most dominant habits. Results are the measure of the habits that manifest them.

- Life isn't fair. Success isn't free. Welcome to the jungle. Operate in reality.

- Watch yourself with emotion. Take control. Emotion clouds judgement. (and makes you want to negotiate more comfort.)

- Maintain the weight by doing the same thing (that you did to lose weight) on a lighter scale. (Yay! That's exactly where I am. I weigh 125.0 today. That's a BMI on me of 19.7 I've already tracked my breakfast, and am on my way to exercise. I'll catch up with you later. emoticon )

    Good for you weighing 125. Your maintenance is going so well. Your Day 8 is inspiring. Life is not fair and success is not is work. I also got too comfortable in years past and regained my weight, I like his tough approach as that is what we have to be to maintain.

    Just catching up on several of your fatloser blogs...thanks for sharing. I am reading the book and following the videos also. Recapping tonight through your paraphrases and personal insights are ideal. Just what I needed to hear. emoticon

    You are really acing this: so glad it's working for you. We're so used to negotiating in every other area of our lives for a "better deal" but . . . there are some hard realities about calories in/calories out that aren't so amenable to negotiation!!

    You are doing GREAT! I am so happy for you. I too have lost weight and gained it all back WHILE ON SPARK, but I am determined that it won't happen again.

    Wow, 19.7...I would have to weigh 107 to have that low of a BMI, and I know I weighed 115 in 8th grade, so I guess it's not going to happen!

    I thought this was an effective video. I'm liking his 'get tough' message more and more now.
    I think we all regained weight with the same thoughts. But this time is different!
