The reunion of Shirley and Jenny, and please don't go to circus!

Sunday, January 12, 2014

The first two links are to very touching videos of Shirley, a circus (and later zoo) elephant who was sent to a sanctuary for her final days. There she met Jenny, an elephant she had been close to in her early days at the circus. The last link is a written update. These events all happened years ago, but are still poignant and meaningful today. You might need Kleenex. Please don't patronize circuses that exploit wild animals.

Thank you so much, Petalia! I'm off to see Shirley now...if she's still there!

Wow. That was moving. And tear producing. Thank goodness for The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. I have been so taken with the Sanctuary's stories and for years (pre-heron era) I watched their Elecam. Do you know it? I just now turned it on and who is there but Shirley! http://www.elephants.com/elecam/ele
camAsian.php They also have a collection of articles about elephant PTSD. Do you know the story of Bella and Tarra? http://youtu.be/cBtFTF2ii7U It is another extraordinary Sanctuary story. Thank you so much for sharing Shirley's story.

  Awwww!

As much as I love the circus, I definitely don't go anymore. I prefer Cirque-du-Soleil instead. It's all people, no animals! Phew!
