a couple small firsts

Saturday, January 11, 2014

My husband an I joined a new gym that opened over the holidays. I went to a yoga class there for the first time today and I WAS SO STINKING NERVOUS.

There was a class that I went to regularly at another gym a couple years ago, but schedule changes happened and I couldn't go anymore. I LOVED the teacher at that gym. She was fabulous.

So trying a new teacher at a new place made me anxious. Would I be able to keep up? Would the teacher be clear? Too fast/slow/aggressive/new-agey?

It was pretty good. I want to go again before I make any final judgments. I can definitely say that when I practice on my own, I don't push myself as hard as this class did. I've always known that - for me - classes are more challenging (in a good way).

Something else new-to-me this weekend: prunes

I had never eaten prunes before last night that I can remember. I don't *need* them, if you know what I mean. Constipation has NEVER been on my list of ailments. I just wanted to try them for some reason.

YUMMY. I could eat them like candy. Seriously.

Best be careful though until I know how they affect me.

I can so relate to the nerves that come from a new gym, a new class, a new instructor, etc. How awesome are you for going and giving it your all?! (I push myself more when I'm in a class setting, too.)

When I was a kid my mother used to make me drink prune juice because I DID need it back then. It was awful. I think those memories have kept me from trying dried prunes, but after reading this now I'm kind of curious!

Yay for trying new things!

Awesome on the firsts! Way to go! I love prunes too, they are like eating candy. And dates, as mentioned before, are also wonderful!

As a yoga instructor, I say "Thank you" for giving that instructor one more chance. Prunes are great but not too many!

Good for you for giving a new teacher a chance! I think I have had prunes before, but can't remember if I like them. Might have to give them a whirl. I eat raisins everyday so that might be something different for me to have as a snack. Thanks for sharing!

Well this was a good day for you with yoga and prunes. LOL Just kidding, I'm glad you tried the yoga class out at the gym and gave the instructor a chance.

oh my gosh! prunes get such a bad rep but they really are delicious! If you haven't had dates before, try those, too. They're sweeter with sort of a brown sugary sort of flavor as opposed to that rich plum-y flavor of prunes. They also can have "that affect" on you though, so don't eat tpp many in one sitting. emoticon

Good for you for putting yourself out there and joining a new class, I'd of been nervous to but you went out of your comfort zone and good for you for challenging yourself! emoticon emoticon

emoticon that you tried out a new class! It's always nerve-wracking, and I know I can't keep up in my friend's favorite hot yoga classes, try though I might. (I decided I just don't like power yoga). Glad the teacher seems like a good fit and I hope it becomes your regular class! I work at a gym and haven't managed to not be working or busy on the days when there's a class I want to take. Soon, though! I miss yoga, but can't afford even the morning $10 classes at my favorite studio anymore emoticon

Prunes, huh? I love a lot of dried fruit, and I love plums, so I don't understand why but I have a severe aversion... probably the forcing of prune juice on me as a child.

Keep trying new things! emoticon
