Training and weight loss?

So I've officially started training for a full marathon. It is an 18 week plan and I would really really like to lose some weight at the same time!
Is that possible?
I'm burning some serious calories on long runs.. as well as mid-distance runs during the week.
I'm aiming to have a larger breakfast and a protein/carb post workout snack to help fuel my workouts and recovery and keep dinner on the smaller side.

What do you think?
Is it possible to train for an event and lose weight?
I figured during the first 8 weeks as I'm slowly building my running base, it shouldn't be too taxing on the system to watch calories.

Well, here is to a new year and finding what works!
Now if only my husband would stop baking sweets! and if only I could have the will power to not even taste them! ;)

    YES! You will probably lose weight BECAUSE you are training for the full marathon.

    Good on you for setting such a high goal.

When I trained for my first marathon (I went from non-runner to marathoner in 9 months), I lost maybe 10 lbs. But what I really noticed was the bodyweight redistribution. My legs got stronger and my waist shrunk.

The trouble for me was I used it as a license to eat more. Even long runs only burn 2000-2500 calories....and I'm not convinced that means I can eat more calories either.

My new mantra is, I exercise to stay fit...and I eat right to lose weight

    Wow, I admire your commitment. I like to know when and where, too, just in case I happen to be in Seattle that weekend, so I can cheer you on.

    a really good friend of mine has been running marathons for a while and now she's totally addicted. I think she said after her first few she hadn't really lost considerable weight but that she lost a ton of fat and gained muscle... so even though she might technically weigh the same her body has totally transformed!

    Wow, you're running a marathon this year, is it your first? When & where? I've been tossing the idea around for a while now. I think before I'm 50....so two years to go!
