Marathon training begins today

Today is the start of what will be a grueling experience for me. I hope it is also an exciting period for me too. I will be running a marathon in 24 weeks and my journey starts today. I have only been jogging consistently for 3 months and I am not exactly sure why I want to run a marathon. It could be because it is a grueling challenge and I want to test myself. But for whatever reason, I am up for the challenge. I am going through a lot of emotions at the moment. I am excited, scared and all over the place all at once.
Today, I ran 3.23 miles and felt so great afterwards. I could have gone farther but I had to restrain myself and avoid overtraining. I am following the nikeplus app for the beginner marathoner and I am logging in all the miles on that app. I will try to log in my exercise to SP as well. I am hoping to blog more often to share my experiences as I go along.
I will need lots of support and encouragement from everyone. Thanks for reading my intro on this incredible journey. Wish me luck and have a great day!!!.

    Wow! What a great goal. I can't run long distance because I have some knee issues but I am going to ride my first half century (50 mile) bike ride this summer. About six or seven years ago I had gotten up to 30 miles a couple of times but I am bound and determined to hit 50 this time. Good luck on your journey. I'm adding you as a friend if you don't mind so I can follow your progress.

    That's so amazing!! I'm a very new runner (less than a month - can I even call myself a runner yet??) but I am already getting excited to try more and more. It just feels indescribably amazing after a run. I'm already addicted :)

I saw my sister in law on Saturday and she is a "real runner" as I call them, and she wanted to try to run a 5K with me in the Spring. I said "yeah right, no way am I going to be able to run 3.1 miles by the Spring". And as you know from my blog post, I did two miles last night! WOO!

    Good on you!! Believe me you CAN do it.

I used a book called "The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer" (look it up on Amazon) for my first marathon. I spent a lot of time reading about running and subscribed to Runners World, just to have something to read and stay motivated (because how much can you really write about running....put one foot in front of the other...)

Believe me, if I can do it, so can you!!

Good luck....and remember to enjoy the process....the biggest payoff may just be to enjoy the culture, sport, and feeling of running....finishing a marathon is just icing on the cake!
