I'm not usually one to celebrate my birthday or even tell anyone that it's my birthday. I prefer to keep it on the DL. And in order to know when my birthday is, you'd have to create a parallel universe in which you already knew it. ;-) This year I decided to be a bit more up front about it. I mean, I'm struggling enough with depression (although truth be told I'm feeling A LOT better) and stress and my health. Why stress about turning 29 for the third time? Hahaha! It's not very social of me to keep it to myself, so I thought it would be a step in the right direction of healing and being open and friendly. And it worked. I feel so blessed and loved by all the kind wishes and goodies here and on Facebook. So, again, thank you!
My day was nice. I actually had to get out of bed and ya know, get dressed, instead of be lazy. My grandmother took me to lunch (and invited my cousin and mom along!) I chose an "Asian" place we have locally... I guess it's mostly Japanese food. I had sushi (caterpillar roll with eel, cucumber, avocado, and other yums) and we split a few appetizers- there was the pepper stuffed with cream cheese, breaded in panko, and fried. And there was the Katori Ball- a HUGE rice ball stuffed with cream cheese and beef, rolled in panko, and fried, then split into quarters and stuffed with a slice of avocado. So good! And my fortune from my cookie was stupid and shallow.
Then, for dinner, I requested pork ribs. My mom makes them really yummy, so she did up a batch. I made potato salad and a green salad to round out the meal. I guess that's what happens when you get older, huh? Make or help make your own birthday dinner? My mom made a big batch of cupcakes. I like the Rainbow Chip with the Rainbow Chip frosting (not Funfetti! That's different and not as good!) so that's what she made. She also got me a present, which I didn't expect. A nice, new fuzzy robe. To replace my favorite, comfortable and comforting "ugly grey robe" (as she and my grandmother call it). I'm not ready to let go of ol' grey, but I have been enjoying my new robe.
Today my friend took me to Starbucks to continue the celebration. They had a few new menu items to finish off the winter- Caramel Flan Latte is what I had to drink. And we split the Salted Caramel Square, which was some sort of shortbready-like crust with caramel, nuts of some type, pretzel pieces, and chocolate, drizzled with more caramel. It was very rich and delicious- I'm glad we split it!
Today was also the first day I was well enough and not too inundated to get started on my January goals. I did 50 mins on the treadmill and increased my vegetable intake (since I've not been eating much freg). I'm glad to get this started!
