Birthday Fun

Wednesday, January 08, 2014

I'm not usually one to celebrate my birthday or even tell anyone that it's my birthday. I prefer to keep it on the DL. And in order to know when my birthday is, you'd have to create a parallel universe in which you already knew it. ;-) This year I decided to be a bit more up front about it. I mean, I'm struggling enough with depression (although truth be told I'm feeling A LOT better) and stress and my health. Why stress about turning 29 for the third time? Hahaha! It's not very social of me to keep it to myself, so I thought it would be a step in the right direction of healing and being open and friendly. And it worked. I feel so blessed and loved by all the kind wishes and goodies here and on Facebook. So, again, thank you!

My day was nice. I actually had to get out of bed and ya know, get dressed, instead of be lazy. My grandmother took me to lunch (and invited my cousin and mom along!) I chose an "Asian" place we have locally... I guess it's mostly Japanese food. I had sushi (caterpillar roll with eel, cucumber, avocado, and other yums) and we split a few appetizers- there was the pepper stuffed with cream cheese, breaded in panko, and fried. And there was the Katori Ball- a HUGE rice ball stuffed with cream cheese and beef, rolled in panko, and fried, then split into quarters and stuffed with a slice of avocado. So good! And my fortune from my cookie was stupid and shallow.

Then, for dinner, I requested pork ribs. My mom makes them really yummy, so she did up a batch. I made potato salad and a green salad to round out the meal. I guess that's what happens when you get older, huh? Make or help make your own birthday dinner? My mom made a big batch of cupcakes. I like the Rainbow Chip with the Rainbow Chip frosting (not Funfetti! That's different and not as good!) so that's what she made. She also got me a present, which I didn't expect. A nice, new fuzzy robe. To replace my favorite, comfortable and comforting "ugly grey robe" (as she and my grandmother call it). I'm not ready to let go of ol' grey, but I have been enjoying my new robe.

Today my friend took me to Starbucks to continue the celebration. They had a few new menu items to finish off the winter- Caramel Flan Latte is what I had to drink. And we split the Salted Caramel Square, which was some sort of shortbready-like crust with caramel, nuts of some type, pretzel pieces, and chocolate, drizzled with more caramel. It was very rich and delicious- I'm glad we split it!

Today was also the first day I was well enough and not too inundated to get started on my January goals. I did 50 mins on the treadmill and increased my vegetable intake (since I've not been eating much freg). I'm glad to get this started!

A belated happy birthday to you!!!! :-D Sorry I missed it yesterday, but better late than never I say! :-D Glad you shared it, we're all glad you were born, so of course we'd want to share in celebrating it - even if only in digital format. :-) I see now where your lovely Starbucks recommendations came from... wowzers, that looks like a winning combination, lol! I'm going to have to carefully craft a day soon where I can partake! Maybe Saturday - I'm playing in a dodgeball tournament that day, and will surely be burning a crap load of calories. I think it's a plan! :-D

What a lovely birthday and yum! emoticon
Wish I could have been there...although I pass on the eel!
Yummy cupcakes and the dinner...big yum! emoticon
I think it is great you let people know it was your birthday...already a change in the new year...keep it up...and the treadmill done...you are on your way! emoticon
Suggestion for the ugly grey robe...cut the biggest piece or uniform small pieces...sew a satin hem...or sew smaller pieces together together..and make a small blankie...you can say it is for kitty emoticon but it is really your security blanket! The new fuzzy bear robe looks grand!
    Happy Year!

emoticon for sharing your birthday with your emoticon s!

And I think we all enjoyed your update today emoticon

As birthdays go, we are not children anymore so expectations must change. But we have a rebirth when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior and each day is a gift worth celebrating emoticon

We are being transformed by His love each day in many ways.

    emoticon So party on, girlfriend.
