Pre-workout Routine

I had a REALLY good weights workout this past Monday--I was able to lift dumbbells that I previously had not been able to lift, and with some ease. There were two big factors contributing to my successful workout:

1. I drank a 5-Hour Energy "shot" (a bunch of caffeine concentrated in a small bottle) about 5 minutes before my 7 P.M. workout. I hope that many moons pass before I drink one of those again since I am now still a little wired though exhausted 24 hours later (doesn't seem healthy.)

2. I focused on having a great workout the entire 45-minute drive home and then to the gym. During this time, I listened to music that pumps me up ("Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz; "Jump Around" by House of Pain; and "Ocean Size" by Jane's Addiction. )

I want to try having one cup of black coffee before my workout and see how badly I sleep. It's my understanding that there is research showing that caffeine helps people have more explosive muscular power. It seemed to do wonders for me. Not only do I want to get my money's worth during my training session, I also like to do a great job in front of my trainer. OF COURSE he's cute, but that's not the point (RRRIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiight.)*

I am trying to figure out the most sustainable way to prepare to have great training sessions without compromising my sleep.

I guess more will be revealed as I continue daily on this journey to health.

***[Post publication note: I found out the day after I posted this that my trainer is twenty-one years old. That's two-one. I am FORTY-ONE. I am TWENTY YEARS OLDER than him. I could be his MOTHER!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHH
HHHHHH disturbing . . . the attraction is gone . . . he's more like a cute little brother now . . . I feel like a creepy old woman . . . yeesh] :D

    Wow, working out at night is tough when it comes to caffeine. Can't say I am a fan of those little drinks but I do love my coffee. My workouts happen in the AM though so I don't have your challenges!! Maybe you can try some more specialized drinks to weight lifting that have less caffeine yet other ingredients? All stimulants I suppose though....BIG is after workout protein if you lift heavy..don't forget!! :)

    Might be a good idea! Worth trying it out! You will do great with that cute trainer - that would give me some motivation right there. LOL!
