Merry Christmas to me!

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

Yes, yes, yes! I am happy! I wanted very few things this Christmas but one thing I wanted most of all and so to ensure that I got it I ordered it for myself. Thomas Keller's book "Bouchon Bakery." I have been w...a..i....t...i...n...g for this book and it finally came today! I had almost given up. It left England on the 13th of December ahead of all the other books I ordered the kids and Patrick fro Christmas. Patrick's book "Eleven Madison Park The Cookbook" left last...and got to us in time for Christmas. All of the kids books except for 2 got here on time, passing my book up. One day we got a notice that a package had arrived from America but when I looked closely at who it was from I saw that it was not to us at all but to someone who lives at a very similarly named street with the same house number who gets things from America. I was in full panic, just sure that they had gotten my book and the last two books we are waiting for. Now I feel hopeful again that the other two will come as well. One is a beautiful pop up book for Quin of the original story "The Wizard of Oz".

Soooooo now my book is here! I don't know when I have been this excited about a book. A long time. I have researched and come up with what I consider to be the current top books in my field and to me this was the top of the top because aside from cake decorating it encompasses a really wide range of topics. Thomas Keller is over the top precise and obsessive about quality so I feel like I will learn something from this book.

I have 5 other books on my list but they can wait. We are saving. Perhaps I can ask for one for my birthday. In the meantime this will give me plenty to read and do. I'm going to check out Patrick's book as well. He requests books from other chefs even less frequently than I do so I imagine it is a pretty special book.

Other things:
I've been tracking today. I got my exercise in walking to the post office! I also took advantage of the sales at the grocery stores today. Two stores had 10 krone sales so I planned my attack very carefully! I tend to go overboard at the 10 krone sales. I did well and still have 170 krone left for the rest of the week to restock on milk and such before the weekend but we shouldn't need much else.. Whoo HOOO!

It is a good day! I hope whatever makes you happy happens to you today as well!

    I LOVE a good book !!

Are there any good thrift stores or used book stores near you ? I haunt my local Goodwill all the time looking for books. I find great cook books all the time. Because I'm near a small culinary school, some of their textbooks have turned up. I know professional cookbooks can be hard to find as well as very expensive.

If there is a book I want to read, I'll wait for a while in hopes of finding a used copy for cheap. I remember checking out books in London, Paris and Amsterdam.... sheesh, at those prices it's a wonder anyone reads in Europe !! LOL !!!

So, I checked out the Thomas Keller book. WOW, gorgeous photos of some of my favorite foods !!!

Oh, BTW, speaking of that culinary school not too far from me. a couple of weeks ago, I was walking past and happened to see some of their "work". The students/chefs had layed out a MASSIVE selection of old world style breads. OMG, you should have seen those loaves. They were beautiful !

yum... food.

Enjoy that book!! I love books of all kinds. I have a good many cookbooks, nothing like the one you ordered, of course. The great thing about cookbooks is they never get old - there is always something to try (or tweek).
I can't to see what fabulous creations you come up with!!
Blessings!

That's awesome Ronna!!! Merry Christmas to you!!! I hope you have a great time reading it! Good job getting back on track with tracking! I've fallen off the wagon as usual. As soon as my break starts, I seem to not have time to exercise or eat correctly. I have been trying to get to bed on time so that helps a little. Anyway, I'm very happy for you! emoticon emoticon

Belated Merry Christmas! Checking out the book for my daughter, and did you know that bouchon is the name given to a type of restaurant in Lyon which traditionally serves fairly hearty food......

Merry Christmas to you! So glad to see that you gave yourself a gift. That's how to love, lovable you! .

Glad to see that you are on track also. I also have had to get back on track after telling myself that I can do it without tracking and just making healthy choices. Well.....let me tell you. THAT WAS A COMPLETE FAILURE!!! After 2 months of this kind of attitude, I was up 9 lbs. Boo-hoo....after all my hard work. But the good news is....I have already got rid of 5 of those pounds....just by tracking and moving my butt!

emoticon I've heard of Keller - hopefully you are going to be able to savor the book! I tend to devour a cookbook as soon as I get it. I read them like novels, then go back and reread and cook different parts. Hope the others get there soon as well.

Great savings! Keep rocking your plan! If I could shiver off the weight, I'd be skinny in no time. emoticon
