Big Change.....

Sunday, January 05, 2014

Well, today my husband checked off another item on his wish list: a puppy. Actually, a dog.
We went to an animal shelter/rescue shelter, and we both liked a house broken beagel/basset hound mix. She's between 2-3 years old, they think. So far, things are going smoothly and uneventful. She's very quiet and makes no fuss.
My husband took a picture and sent an e-mail with it to lots of people. We got a call in about 3 minutes from our daughter. She'd wanted a dog for years when she lived with us but we weren't home during the day for so long that it wouldn't have been kind to the dog. Now that we're retired, we have time. Our daughter lives and works elsewhere, so she's jealous. Of course, now she's working hours that leaves her no time for a dog. She gets her pet fix through her roommate's dog and boyfriend's family's cats.
Another adventure.

I recently commented on a Facebook blog that owning a dog is better than prescription drugs for your blood pressure. They also help give you exercise - because a dog that's used to going for a daily walk (or two) is very effective at guilting you into keeping that daily commitment. We have a 4 year old shepherd-Newfoundland cross - still young enough to be a challenge to keep up with, but I wouldn't consider being without her.
Good luck with your new family member.

Congrats!! I have to agree that you will love it!! All of our dogs have been rescued except for the first which was a Basset hound that we got as a puppy at 10 weeks old. We have two rescue dogs right now who are both getting on in years, a Dutch sheepdog who is 11 and a shepherd beagle mix who is 12. They are my babies.

Have fun!! Bassets have a wonderful disposition!!

Congratulations! You will love it.. I imagine you already do. We got a rescue dog too about 5 months ago. It keeps up more active. I have not been working and enjoy the company during the day. Bassetts are adorable.. as are beagles. You can tell your daughter she can watch the dog if you go away.
